My dad had orthoscopic (sp?) surgery on his knee about 2 weeks ago to repair some torn cartilage. He was doing great - up and around even mowed the lawn with a push mower. Then 3 days ago it really started to bother him. He is in great pain and can't bend his knee now. It's swollen from the surgery and has never really gone down. My mom is out of town so I took him to the walk-in clinic then we were sent over to the ER so they can run some tests. They aren't sure if he might have an infection or possibly a blood clot. :guilty:

I've got to run back over and pick him up in a little while. So some Prayers would really be appreciated!

I hope your Dad's okay. Give us an update. :grouphug:

Could it be scar tissue building up? My grandmother had her knee replaced and was recovering fairly well (as well as an 85 yo w/severe osteoporosis can) when she had swelling and a lot of pain in her leg (so bad that she couldn't sleep at all). While waiting a few days for her next dr's appt, she heard and felt a popping sound/sensation which she though might have been something breaking in her new knee. Turns out it was scar tissue buildup that broke free and caused the swelling/pain to greatly diminish. Hopefully this is all that's going on with your Dad and he'll be feeling better very soon.

Is he going to physical therapy? DH had knee surgery and everything was ok until he started going to pt. Everytime he'd go, the back of his knee would swell and he was in agony. The doc kept coming in and saying it was just from the surgery. They finally figured out it's a baker's cyst. It fills with fluid during pt causing pain. They discontinued pt and DH has been fine. Please keep us updated on your dad and I hope he gets well soon.

Prayers from Georgia for your Dear Dad.. hope he's up and feeling fine soon!

Well all of the good thoughts and prayers must have worked! They tested for a blood clot & did an ultrasound and it was negative. They took some of the fluid from under his knee cap to test for infection and the preliminary results were negative. So at this point it looks like he just over-worked it and now has fluid built up in the joint.

Well Dad's going in to the hospital tonight :guilty: . He went to his follow up appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday and everything looked o.k. They took a ton of fluid off of his knee and gave him a Cortisone shot. He's been doing much better. Well today the ER doctor from last Sunday called him to tell him that one of the tests that takes longer came back positive for bacteria. They called his surgeon and he's checking into the hospital tonight. They are going to flush out the joint tomorrow.

At least my mom's home from visiting her sister, so she went up to the hospital with him. It's a 2 hour drive away...

Once again prayers would be appreciated!

Well Dad was in the hospital until July 5th then came home with an antibiotic pump and IV. He wasn't feeling 100% but was doing o.k. Yesterday he started feeling poor and today he passed out when the home health nurse came to change his pump. They had Mom come home and they called the ambulance. They took him up to the local hospital and are now transferring him via ambulance to a larger facility 2 hours away. His Infectious Disease doc, knee surgeon and cardiologist are all supposed to be there waiting. The local doc thinks that maybe the staph infection in his knee has spread to the IV site...

I went to see him at before they left for the other hospital and was a basket case...

Please keep him in your prayers...

Oh my, how can a simple knee surgery get so bad?

Good thoughts for your Dad. :grouphug:

Oh man, I hope it's not as serious as it sounds and he's feeling better soon.

Oh, wow! I'm so sorry you dad is having to go through this.

Sending pixie dust and well wishes for him and prayers that he get can back to the healing process soon. :wizard: :goodvibes

Hugs for you and your family as well. :grouphug:

Well my Dad said he should have bought a lotto ticket since it must have been his lucky day... His staph infection is supposedly one of the kind that is easy to treat. He had blood work and a check up at the surgeons on Monday and they said everything looked about the same as when he left the hospital the week before - which is what they expected... The scariest part for me is that this IV he's on is hooked to a catheter that goes to his heart to distribute the antibiotics...I'm praying that this infection hasn't spread...
