We just got a Blockbuster Card yesterday for the first time in about 5 years (I know we are behind) but we just bought a DVD player.

Anyway I need some recommendations and you can go back a couple of years. My tastes are comedy and romance....with NO SAD ENDINGS! Its okay if you cry because its HAPPY, but no SAD MOVIES like Step-mom etc.

DH like action/adventure/drama

I looked at Hollywood Movies online and these looked interesting...but anything you suggest,

Kate and Leopold?
Rat Race?
Sorority Boys?
Life or Something Like It?
The Shipment?
Changing Lanes?
Sweetest Thing?
Serendipity?

I would love to see The Others and possible 13Ghosts but think it may freak DH out?

So any advice??

JTB,

I've seen that one....I agree it really is a must see for anyone! I to this day don't quite know what I think about it:) Didn't like the ending though:(

Rat Race is great if you feel like nonstop laughter for 90 minutes. My cheeks were hurting from laughing so hard. :D

I also loved The Sweetest Thing - but its not a family movie. Its a great "girlfriends" movie with plenty of adult humor tossed in. I actually bought the DVD after seeing it.

How about Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon?

I think you might like America's Sweethearts, that was a really cute movie.

I also like My Best Friends Wedding and the Wedding Singer (esp. if you're an 80's person).

Last night I watched a foreign film, Monsoon Wedding. It's about a girl in India getting married to an Indian man who lives in the US. They speak a combination of Indian and English.

Coyote Ugly
Hope Floats
Booty Call
Night at the Roxbury

That is all that I can think of now that I really enjoyed.

What about Kate and Leopold? The review looks good but is it sad?

Christine,

I loved Coyote Ugly!!

Kate and Leopold is not a sad movie, you'll like it.

My 2 favorite comedy/romance movies of late are Legally Blonde and Return to Me. Return to Me never got much press, but it is a great movie. Some parts are so funny, and it's got a really unique story line. It also stars Bonnie Hunt, who is very funny, and David Duchovny who is very easy on the eyes. I guarantee you'll like it Beauty!

Legally Blonde is another fun, lighthearted movie, and Reese Witherspoon is great in it.

By the way, if you like sheer non-stop comedy, I second you trying Rat Race. VERY funny movie.

We are going to get three, so far I'm leaning towards,

Rat Race

America's Sweethearts

and

Legally Blond

I read the storylines on them and they soung great...but I also want to see

Return to Me and Kate and Leopold and The Others although that will have to be without my scardy cat DH.

DH and I both liked Panic Room with Jodie Foster

Kate & Leopold I found rather lame, although I like both of the actors in it.

Serendipity was fun. It got terrible reviews, but I thought it was good. If you like romance movies, its good (but not great).

Loved Bridget Jones' Diary. You'll laugh a lot, I guarantee.

I also agree with Jeafl, Legally Blonde was hilarious, and Return to Me was one of the sweetest, most underrated movies.

Rat Race was funny.

Wasn't crazy about America's Sweethearts because I cannot tolerate Julia Roberts. But John Cusak made it o.k.

The Others scared the pants off me, but I'm like your DH, a scaredy cat. :)

Legally Blond was really cute! I also loved Notting Hill!

Legally Blond and Return to Me get my vote.

"Lame" is an excellent choice of words to describe Kate and Leopold.

Hummm I might hold off on Kate and Leopold then...I just love Meg Ryan. I don't have a clue what Bridgette Jones' Diary is...I'm going to go look it up. Thanks everyone.

I just watched Panic Room last night. That one had me on the edge of my seat - literally! It was VERY suspenseful!

Serendipity
Get Shorty
Frequency
The Last Castle
Rememer the Titans
What Lies Beneath
Proof of Life
Enemy at the Gates (for DH)
Training Day (for DH)
Gladiator (for both)

For the record, you would have to pay me to watch Moulin Rouge.
Coyote Ugly was, for me, one of the worst movies of all time. I tried watching it on an airplane. If I could have walked out, I would have.

I really liked Bridget Jones Diary. And if you want something a little spooky (and you like Richard Gere! :p ), you might enjoy The Mothman Prophecies. 13 Ghosts was just plain grotesque to me but other people I know liked it.
