We are making our first trip staying at the Polynesian in December of this year and I was hoping to get some opinions on how to make our stay the best one possible.

I know the Polynesian was going through renovations - has the entire hotel been renovated now - should we request certain part of the Poly? Right now we have a standard garden view room. Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

I believe all the interior renovations are complete. There may be some exterior work going on (they were working on the monorail platform when we were there last month), but all the rooms have the new set-up. Building requests would simply depend on what you want to be near (the GCH or the TTC, for example) at the resort.

We stayed in the Samoa building.I requested it when I booked our package. . I called the hotel directly to make sure they had our request. we had a room facing the pool and it was the best. We were close to everything on the resort. If you like to nap in the afternoon I would request one on the quiet pool side. And they are all garden view rooms I believe. The Poly is our favorite resort in Disney So have a great time

I also second the advice to go to Tikiman's site and read about the buildings. He provides detailed information about the good and bad for each building, and then you can use that information to make the best decision for yourself.

Tikiman knows it all!! Tons of info there. We too requested Samoa and thought it was perfect. Centrally located to everything at the resort especially the volcano pool. :thumbsup2

You are going to have a wonderful vacation! :thumbsup2

My advice (and I travel to WDW all the time and have gone from being a commando-type, micro-managing, crazed planner to a relaxed vacationer) is to have confidence that you have chosen a truly amazing Disney resort and that you are going to have tons of fun :cheer2: You have made your reservation and, honestly, I would just leave it at that (aside from park- and dining planning, of course ;) ). At the Poly you cannot go wrong. At least in my experience ( I have stayed there at least 4 times - from standard garden view to Concierge). The grounds are amazing, you will NOT believe it when you walk out of the Grand Ceremonial House toward the pool and see Cinderella's Castle beyond the Seven Seas Lagoon. :cloud9:
The pools are great, the beach is gorgeous, having the monorail is magical, Kona Cafe is delicious, 'Ohana is extremely festive, ALL the rooms are brand new and are gorgeous IMO... you will LOVE it! Don't fret about what building/what view/etc. You have chosen wisely;) and you will have a Magical time! :wizard:

Thanks everyone for the information/advice. I'll definitely check out the Tikiman's site for more info on the Polynesian. Looking forward to December ~ Disney does such a great job with all the parks and hotels around the holidays.

Our last stay at Poly was a few months ago and we also had a standard garden view room. I researched rooms on the tikiman site and I'm glad I did. You'll see there are several "longhouses" and the first thing you'll want to do is figure out what location your family wants to be in. The most important factors for us was to be close to the main volcano pool and also the main building. So we chose Samoa longhouse. I will attach a picture of our view from our balcony. Yes, it was standard view, but with much research on tikiman site I was able to dig out this gem!

I would also recommend making some dining ADR's ("reservations") at perhaps Ohana Restaurant at Poly if the menu and entertainment interest you. When we stay at Poly, we like to make a few ADR's at restaurants at the other monorail resort restaurants as well since it's really easy to get back and forth. I'm not sure who your family members are, but if you have young children, Chef Mickeys at CR is a fun character meal. California Grille at the top of CR is a great restaurant in which you can watch Wishes from too.

Here are 2 pictures of our view from our Samoa room, one picture is zoomed:

Beautiful view! We were just on the other side (room 3617) and had a view of the quiet pool. Here was our view:

We're going in December also and I'm requesting the Raratonga. We've stayed in that building before and always love it. We even stayed there during Hurricane Edward and Bob, who was in charge of the building, is awesome!

Have a great trip!

I'm possibly heading back to Disney for my spring break next year (keep your fingers crossed for me!). I'm going with a bunch of family and I'm pretty sure we're considering the Polynesian, which would be wonderful 'cause I've always wanted to stay there. We usually stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort so this will be a bit of an upgrade =]

I don't really have any questions, I just wanted to post 'cause this thread got me a little excited, haha.

Just a reminder, attempting to bypass the word filter can get you points. The word filter is in place for a reason.

We're going to try something a bit different and request Fiji facing the marina for our trip in September. The whole place is fabulous. :thumbsup2

Nice! That is what I like so much about the Poly -- you can get a standard room with an awesome view.

Absolutley! Garden view rooms are fine with me, since the gardens at the Poly are amazing!

I agree! One evening we had really hard rain (this was two weeks ago), and since the overhang was so deep, I was able to sit out on the balcony and watch it pour.

You'd think I was sitting watching a hurricane hit some tropical island! The palms were going nuts, and I was loving every minute of it! I had my glass of wine, and I sat out there watching a wonderful lightening show - and best yet, the torches stayed lit!

I'm staying at the Polynesian for the first time next year and am so excited!!! I visiting every thread that has the word Polynesian in it. Thanks for the tips. I have looked at Tikiman's site and decided that I'm going to request Tokelau (sp?) It has the bigger rooms (there's five of us) and the garden view has a possible view of the quiet pool and maybe even the castle. Plus an easy walk to GCH and the TTC.
