need some ideas for kids...

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. DD6 and DS4 both celebrated birthdays in the past 2 weeks. Family members knew we had an upcoming trip to Disney and gave the kids each money for them to pick something out on the trip. Well, they each have $70 and rather just buying this toy here and there that will get played with twice, then probably broke, not to mention we probably won't have extra room in the car to bring these things home, I thought maybe they could do something special with their money, and hopefully teach them that Disney isn't cheap, lol. We've already got character meals booked. I've read about the Grand Adventures for kids, but DD doesn't seem impressed with the tea party and the pics I've been able to come up with here on the DIS. Both liked the Pirate Cruise, but I feel DS4 is just too young for me to be able to send him off like that. Any other ideas of something they can do, or something memorable they will be able to buy?
Thanks!

We celebrated our son's first b-day at WDW and like you, wanted to get some special momentos. We got some of the standard things like the Buzz Lightyear ride photo, etc but our absolute favorite souvenir we got at MGM. There is a store there where Disney animators do colored pencil sketches of Disney characters. You can order whichever character you want and the animator will draw it right there and even personalize it. We bought a personalized drawing of our son's favorite character and a matching frame. It wasn't expensive and we've gotten a million compliments on it. That is one souvenir that is sure to be around for a very long time.

Have a fun trip!

Your DD might like a special dress up dress. They are gorgeous and pricey. A well worth splurge. (DS might like a costume too. My DS2 dresses up with his big sisters, 3 and 5).

Your DD could look around at all the costumes for a few days - and then pick one to wear to a character meal...

DD5 bought with her own money a Lilo costume at a store at MGM across from Playhouse Disney. It cost $40, and she got some compliments from other people and CM. She plays "dress up" a lot even before our trip though.

How about a hairwrap. They had a kiosk outside POR and I'm sure they're everywhere in the resort. They last a long time, and we'll look into this for our next trip.

They can last a long time. DD always gets one on our first night, I guess it's become a tradition now. When she got one last year, it was 3months+ when we finally took it out. Although the very first one she had came out in 2 weeks. I guess it depends on the person doing it and how well they do it.

Have you heard of the Family Magic tour at MK? It's $25 per person, and I've read really great reviews about it. We plan on doing it for our November trip. You are guided on a sort of scavenger hunt around MK by a character or CM, and you learn all sorts of neat things in the process. At the end, there's a private character meet & greet. There's some info & reviews at http://allearsnet.com/btp/tours.htm#fmt . I think it would be fun for the kids, but you wouldn't have to worry about leaving the 4-year-old with strangers since you'll be on the tour, too.

I have read about it in the past but forgotten about it, thanks for posting about it. I'm sure DD would love it.:earsboy:
