Need some ideas......baby shower gift

My husband's boss' son is having a baby, the shower is this Saturday. We are very close with this family in fact they (the new baby's grandparents) are our son's god parents.

I have already shopped for baby off the registry list and am done with that but I want to make up a gift for the mom to be. My idea: A "I'm going to the hospital" bag. I thought I could include: chapstick, lotion, trial size deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner and things of that nature. What do you think? What other items could I include? Or......do you have any other "cute or different" ideas for something (relatively small) I could do for the mom (or parents) to be?

After my son was born, my friend brought me a lounge wear set(sort of reminds me of long johns) from Victorias Secret. It was so comfortable and stretchy(perfect for post partum days hanging around the house). In fact, 6 years later I still wear it. Very comfy!

How about a magazine to read in the hospital.

When my SIL had a baby shower (men were included) I had made up a "mans" shower gift for my brother. I had bought a masculine looking diaper bag, disposable diapers, daddys baby outfit, bibs and a couple of odds and ends.

A gift certificate from the Picture People is good one too.

What about a manicure or a pedicure for mom to use after the baby is born to have some time to pamper herself?

I would say bath gels/lotions or manicure/pedicure gift certificate.

I always give a 'mom basket' like some of the other posters have said, depending on how well I know the mom, or how much money I have to spare at the time. Bath, pampering items, things like that.

For a hospital bag....... Magazines, a good book. I know this might sound silly, but flip flops. I used them when I took a shower, I don't know something about my bare feet in the shower at a hospital just grossed me out. I always had flip flops. Also some little snack stuff.

I am pregnant and I know what I would love! A $5 gift certificate to Starbucks. I miss my weekly Cafe Mocha!!!!! I have given my friends small gift baskets from Bath and Body Works.
