My son and his wife did not get to go on their disney honeymoon this year because the bride's grandfather passed away the day of the wedding. So dh and I decided we would get their room/package for them for May '06. Our immediate family has never gone, our first trip in 34 days so I really am at a loss. I had AAA give me a qoute on value and moderate. So my questions are this...

1. Bride wants to go to Universal one day. How far away from Disney? I secured a 6 day reservation, figuring since they were driving they could go there on one of their days but have the dining plan to eat at Disney if they so choose to save on expenses.

2. I would like to secure CRT for the anniversary dinner..on the 21st of May and pay for it for them. Can I do that?

3. For those of you who have gone with no children and upgraded to a "plus" package, what are some of the things you have done that were unforgettable?

Any advice will be welcome. I have reserved POR for 6 nights with 6 day parkhopper/dining non expiry and Univ/IOA for two of the 6 days. I want this to be special for them!

The bride's parents will be chipping in as well so our budget at this point is actually pretty decent! My son is more laid back type person, loves to ride rides and EAT. My dil is the more adventorous of the two. She doesn't mind trying NEW stuff. I don't see my son interested in parasailing but you never know.

Universal is about a $40 cab ride, one way, from Disney. Maybe rent a car. Cheaper.

Call and get your reservation for CRT and once you do that, call the manager at the location and give him/her your CC info. I did it with my kids when they were there in May. No problems.

Sounds like you've got a great plan. Everything will be fantastic for them.

I didn't think Universal was as much in the taxi actually - it's about $40 to Florida Mall from Wilderness Lodge one-way, but Universal is a little closer. We have always taken a cab as it's not too expensive and more convenient than the drive. Have a great time!

Since you stated they are "driving" no need for a rental car or Taxi, it's about a 30 min or less drive from Disney over to Universal depending on traffic.

Since they have the Dining Plan they need to call and make their Advance Dining Reservations for where they want to eat.

if they are on the dining plan, they can simply use their TS credits to eat at CRT... and they won't have to "starve" (LOL) another day because they can use the credits from the day they are in universal...

we rented a car to go to universal... it was very convenient... all we did was make the ressie w/alamo or national, have the free shuttle pick us up in the morning at our resort, ride to the car care center, get our rental and hit the road... for the return we brought it to the dolphin ('cause it was night time and the ccc was closed) and dropped it w/the valet and then took disney transport to epcot (boat) in time to see illuminations... the cost for a small rental for the day was about $30 (using codes and discounts found at www.mousesavers.com of course!)... cheaper than a taxi and more convenient (imo) too... plus we were able to eat off-site at IHOP for breakfast which my kids were thrilled with (we have none near us at home but they see the commercial on tv all the time! LOL!)

whatever you decide, i am sure they will enjoy... and they are very blessed to have two sets of caring parents/in-laws :flower:

Ok curiosity finally got the best of me on this one and I have to ask.

Am I the only one that can see that the OP posted her son and his wife are "driving".

Everyone has posted about cabs and rentals, I was beginning to think maybe I was seeing things in her post that no one else could read. :confused3

Nope, I read it, too.

Universal is a short drive down I-4 from WDW. Depending on the traffic, it is a 15-25 minute drive.

Taking a cab sometimes takes the stress out of having to drive there and park.

I appreciate the information so far! I guess giving them the information re: the cab maybe helpful to them just in case they don't want to drive to Universal. I guess I assumed since I would drive if I had my car..but you are right it might make it less stressful for them to get a cab that knows where it is going!

It is a very easy drive and easy to find and park. I don't think they would have any problems.

And isn't there a new policy with CRT that you have to pay in full when you make the reservation? So wouldn't that just give the couple some extra credits to enjoy maybe a signature restaurant? And isn't Cindy's now a signature restaurant - 2 TS credits? Just wondering...
