I have been a DVC member for a few years and I'm already kicking myself for not getting enough points. So, my husband and I are discussing adding points to our membership. I have talked to my DVC rep and checked the reseale wesites.

It seems like it's cheaper to buy from the sites, but I'm hesitant to buy outside of disney. My sales rep said there may be hidden fees the sites don't tell you about until you get to closing and if there is a problem you have to deal with the resale company. Disney can't help.

Is it worth the extra few dollars per point to go through Disney? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

the timeshare store doesn't have hidden fees - they tell you the closing costs upfront and that is all of it. no problems in my experience. (but disney sales reps only make a commission if you buy direct...)

depends. for 100 pts or more, it is definitely worthwhile to buy a resale contract. especially if you want pts at SSR or OKW, the deals are simply much better.

but if you need pts immediately and can't wait 6-8 weeks to close, maybe it's worth it to pay more directly through disney. smaller resale contracts with fewer than 50 pts also tend to sell for a premium...once you add closing costs, there is not much difference than buying direct...

so i would only recommend buying direct if you want a small contract, or a contract for a new resort like BLT since there are fewer resales available.

The three main DVC resellers are all very reputable, nothing to fear from them. Ask upfront about all fees and costs and they will tell you. There will be no hidden fees. And - unlike your Disney rep - they probably won't lie/mislead you about he pros and cons of buying direct. Sheesh.

If you buy direct, it will be faster, easier and you can get exactly what you want. The cost buying direct will probable be more than buying resale (for the older resorts at least)... but be sure to factor in closing costs and maintenance fees to see exactly how much more it will be.

Only you can decide if it's worth the extra cost to buy quicker and easier and get exactly the number of points you want. But you absolutely 100% shouldn't be afraid to buy outside Disney.

TSS has a good reputation and I have never heard anything bad about the transactions. We happen to be in the process of 50 pts @ SSR just this week. You can negotiate price and closing. It happens the sellers are paying closing costs. Its just hoping Disney won't come in and buy it first!
