Need some help planning a December trip

Hi Saysib,

We are just over a year away from our next trip - hopefully. Dependent on us getting some half decent fight prices for last two weeks of August as have to go in school hols. Also have a ticker saying we will be at the POFQ but seriously doubting that now. Haven't booked as it is just so expensive even with 'free' dining. Not sure when we will be back to stay onsite now prices are so high; as many people on here are saying.

Shouldn't complain; it will be our 19th trip. Have been so lucky over the years but it has just fed the addiction...

You're welcome! This will be my 3rd trip in December :-) x

Ooh, you'll have to tell me all the tips for a Christmas time trip. Its been a long time since we were there at that time of year! I tried following the link for your Dec journal but none of your pics show (I was wanting to peek at how you were all dressed, lol. Our pics show me in jeans and a sweatshirt almost the whole trip)

We've been thinking the same about staying onsite. I spent weeks and weeks toying as I really want to spend 3 weeks in Florida as we never have, but also wanted so badly to stay at Disney and there is really no way we could do it now I actually sit down and look at prices. I cant believe the price jump since looking last year. :(

Where are you based? I have a friend who drives down to Newcastle every year as she says thats one of the cheapest flights she has found (we are near Edinburgh) We are looking into flying to Dublin and then out as it seems to be one of the cheaper options this year - who knows come next year though!

Tips... okay! Lets see!

Weather is a bit hit and miss over Christmas. In 2006, we had one day of torrential rain, the rest of the time we were in shorts and tshirts, but take light jackets for evenings. In 2010 however, it was the coldest winter they've had in 21 years! We were in winter coats most of the time, especially of an evening.
Hopefully its back to normal now!

Crowd wise - its busy. Theres no 2 ways about it! We dont stay onsite, so we cant use EMH, but i imagine using these would be an advantage. Same rules apply though - utilise Fastpasses as best you can, eat lunch/ dinner early or late to avoid big crowds, and just go with it! If you go to worry about thre crowds, you wont enjoy it!

And at Christmas... well, Disney will speak for itself, its pretty magical :-)

Need anymore help, feel free to ask!

Oh, and I have some videos on my Youtube channel of our 2010 Christmas trip if youre interested :-)

Steffi xx

Thanks Steffi, I guess I just got to think that the weather will at least be far better than it is here in December :thumbsup2

We are looking to go Nov 28th (day after TG) until Dec 19th so home as the schools let out. As an adult I've been mid May, 1st 2 weeks in October and 1st 2 weeks of December. I dont remember having too much issue with the crowds on any of the trips, but this will be my 1st time taking a buggy, lol.

What about offsite? I'm not sure if we'll go to Universal this next time or not, but is there anything else we should see? We saw the snowfall in Celebration and the ICE show at Gaylord Palms in 2005 so hope to do those again. I'm guessing the malls get crazy busy just like they are here in the Christmas lead up.

I'm so excited to go!

Ive only ever been over the christmas period, so am not sure what crowds are like before then.

We also do the snow in Celebration, and the classic car cruise at Old Town. Id love to do Gaylod Palms though!

We went in December 2007 and had very reasonable weather for the two weeks some days were a little cooler maybe 18/19 degrees to 24/25 degrees. We then went in dec 2010 and was totally un prepared!! Had to buy winter coats and boots as they had some very freak cold days but then the second week was nice and warm around 24/25!!
We have always stayed on site and recently purchased DVC. We went in May and had a studio at OKW and I thought the space was sufficient for me, DH, DD 4 and DS 1. The studio's at OKW are very spacious and have two queen beds. There is a small kitchenette but no washer/dryer. For me being able to hop on a bus back to hotel for a nap/rest mid day is a big bonus, I don't think my family could cope with full days in the park! Happy planning!
