I am interested in the 100 point add on at the AKL. We already have 175 point at the BWV. My husband and I have no children but we go once a year. So far we have been happy with DVC since we bought in 2008. I have to admit that the last 2 times at the BWV we thought that the rooms really needed some upgrading as there was a lot of wear and tear. I am trying to talk my husband into buying more points. He does not think we need more and thinks 175 are enough for two adults with no children. We have been a couple of times with family so I do not think that 275 pts would go to waste. The AKL is one of my favorite resorts. I think with the extra pts we could get a one bedroom instead of a studio all the time. I love to travel and we have never used our pts anywhere but Disney. Has anyone tried using pts for the caribbean or anywhere else? Was it easy to book? Do you think that 275 pts would be too much for just two adults? Thanks everyone !! I am really trying to talk hubby into this.

If the idea is to be able to get a 1BR rather than studio most of the time then adding on is a good idea but not adding on at a different resort. If you have both BWV and AKV points, you cannot mix them to book 11 months out -- only AKV points can be used at AKV 11 months out and only BWV points can be used at BWV 11 months out. The 11month window can be important many times of year and thus if getting a 1BR is the reason to add-on, you want the extra points at the same resort you already own.

As far as adding on otherwise (just to go more, or to also get the 11 month window at another resort), that boils down to personal choice. There are some DVC members who have a set amount of points, lower than your 175, who firmly believe they have more than enough. Then there are the rest of us who wake almost every morning believing we never have enough.

Cannot really help with the trade outs as we don't do them.

We just bought in yesterday!!!:cheer2: But my parents have been DVC members for 15 years! They bought in at OKW and have bought several times since then., both resale and new. I believe they are somewhere in the upwards of 400 pts now, not sure. Anyways, all of the kids are grown and out of the house, adn they travel by themselves. They are on the 15 day repo cruise through the Panama Canal right now (not on DVC points though). Last year they booked a 2 week Hawaiian vacation, including a week on Norwegian Cruise Lines (they said it doesn't even come close to comparing to Disney!). They paid for the entire trip with points. They said it was so easy, they just paid the $90 transfer fee. They had a fabulous time!

Well, we are just two rather aging adults, and we don't find 449 points to be too much, so... No, I don't think 275 is too many for two adults! On the contrary, I'd say it probably isn't enough. I feel that people really miss the point of DVC if they only stay in studios. The 1 or 2 bedroom villas are the true representation of DVC.

Thanks everyone !!!! I feel it is a good move but I just have to convince hubby that it is worth it. I think as we get older and keep going the more we will want to go and just relax. Maybe go and have a relaxing vacation instead of getting up early to go to the parks. Thats why I think staying in the 1 bdrm will be nice. I also feel that we could use the pts for the Disney Cruise. We have been on 3 of the 4 nights and we have a 7 night booked for next May, so I do not feel that the points would ever go to waste. The BWV and the AKL are my two most favorite resorts. Even if we don't go to Disney I would love to go to the caribbean or try something new. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again everyone !!!!!!

I's just me and my hubby and we have 360 points and our goal is to have 600-700. We live in South FL and love to travel and do all things Disney. We travel in the off season and always get a one bedroom for the space and the chance to eat a few meals in. A week in off-season is 160-200 points for a 1 bdrm (OKW is 160, most of the others are near 200). 360 points is good for two weeks in off-season in a 1bdrm but we also like to cruise and ABD and would like to have enough points to cover the cost of a least one person for those such trips....
