Are the rooms at the AKL small and cramped? That is what I've read at least. Are the rooms at the Poly so much more spacious where you can truly feel like you aren't couped up? Please let me know. THANKS!

I know the Unofficial Guide has the room layouts and sft sizes in it, but I dont have it anymore.

Do I notice the difference?
Absolutely! The Poly room has much more space and can accomodate an extra daybed and a loungechair. If you have a patio or balcony, it can seem even that much bigger (not every room has one though).

The bathrooms at the AKL are more convenient for multiple use. The balconies are very nice and I believe every room has one.

That said, I'd really like both resorts and wouldn't be put off by room size or bathroom configuration.

The regular rooms at the Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are the same size as the rooms at Caribbean Beach Resort, which is a moderate-priced resort.

There's a very big, very noticable difference in the room sizes of the AKL as compared to the Polynesian.

Having said that, I personally don't choose a resort based on room-size alone (unless DSs are with us). For just DH and I, the room at AKL was perfectly fine. How many people will be with you in your room??? That would make a big difference in whether you'd want to choose a larger room or not.

Rooms at the Poly are either 409 or 476 sq. feet. Rooms at AKL are 344 sq. feet. IMHO, rooms at AKL and WL definitely feel "closer" than the rooms at the Poly, especially the bigger ones in the newer longhouses.

.

I do. Here you go:
AKL typical room: 344 square feet.

Poly: Typical room: 415 square feet (some newer rooms are larger.)

I've never felt cramped at AKL (family of 4). However, the Poly rooms are indeed quite a bit larger as you can see from the measurements posted above. Could be that because there's so much to see and do at AKL that we're just never in the room long enough to start tripping over each other.

The rooms at the Poly are definitely bigger. When we first stepped into our room at the AKL in December, it took me awhile to adjust to the 'shock' in room size. It was fine for us (two adults and one child) but after being used to all that space at the Poly it took some getting used to. :thumbsup2

I will say that the way the bathroom is laid out with the double-sinks outside of the shower/toilet area at the AKL makes up for the room size somewhat.

For standard rooms, the Polynesian has just 1 room layout, and the AKL has 3. Here are the layouts for the 2 resorts..

What it means is that the Poly room will be about 9-10 feet longer than the AKL room. Not really that much difference about the size of the daybed. I think the difference is actually in the bathroom area though so the room itself will not be that much larger just the bathroom. I could be wrong but I dont remember my cousins room being that much bigger than ours just the sitting area and the bathroom were slightly larger.

I will be staying at the Poly for the 1st time in Aug. But I have stayed at AKL and loved the resort, except for the room size. Being a family of 4, with teenage sons, the room was just too small. We probably would not stay there again for that reason. We liked the WL and the room was small, but seemed slightly larger then AKL. We stayed at the BWI and loved the room size. We try and stay at a different Resort each time, and now take room size into consideration.:confused3 :confused3

Keep in mind at least one building at the Poly (there may be 2) do have the double sink layout in the bathrooms which doesn't show on the PP's layout. We stayed in Tahiti and had the double sinks with lots of counter space and a shelf above that ran the whole length of the vanity area. I've never been to AKL so can't really compare but we had 3 adults and 2 children in our room in Tahiti and were completely comfortable. We had a 1st floor room so being able to open the sliding door and walk right outside to the patio made the room feel even bigger! We'll be staying there again next year!

Yes, Tokelau, Tahiti, and Rapa Nui all have about 50 more square feet added to the rooms, and it feels like it's mostly in the bathroom :goodvibes
