Need some Flat Stanley help

I received Flat Stanley and I promise I will send him back -- I am going to be unable to work with him for a few days, but I promise he is coming soon!
I hope the kids are having a good time with it.

This is a project we are doing until May so it's absolutely fine. Thanks so much for your help! My class is absolutely loving the Flat Stanleys! They get so excited when the secretary or our director brings us some mail. We have actually started taking down some of our decorations and redecorating our room with our Stanleys and the information that comes back with them. It has really been a fun and exciting way to learn United States geography!

They were very excited at mail call today when we had a delivery, and Stanley has already been mounted on paper along with your note and sent to the laminating machine. are you kidding me? I felt like I really blew it. I promised to participate, but I never go anywhere. so I dressed stanley in some sports teams!!! (I made a point of NOT including the cubs... hubby and 2 grown sons and dad are Major white sox fans..... but hubby pointed out that Stanley wasn't a Bulls fan either..

I forgot about basketball, and I think almost everyone else has, too, since these players are SO GREEDY!!!


I do have to grudingly say, though, the packers are doing a great job.. but.. go Bears!!!

you know, some states (like Illinois, or florida) have MANY sports teams.. others have none, and so college football, basketball, are very important to them.

but many people in Illinois, say, are fans of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team (because they may live in southeren Illinois, and that team is closer to them.)

My oldest son was not a big reader growing up ,(actually, not a great student, average) but he was a big sports fan.

amazing how you can reach some of the boys in your class who have NO interest in geography, when you start talking sports. ...

my son somehow was interested in reading when it came to the sports page in the newspaper. and amazing how you can use the sports pages to teach math (averages, etc.)


ask your boys in your class about the Utah Jazz. (well, maybe not THIS year, with the basketball strike and all)..
Utah.. basically a "mormom " state.. Jazz? well, you see, the team originated in.. you guessed it New Orleans!!!


I raised boys... you do what it takes to get them interested

Don't know if you have anyone from California but I live near San Francisco and we can visit Pier 39 (and maybe the Walt Disney Family Museum if I can talk my DH into renewing). I'm also going to Disneyland for Christmas (12/19 - 12/27) so he can always come with us to check out Walt's original park. I think my 4 year old son and 3 year old daughter would love to join in on the fun. Send me a PM if you want my address.

the sports section of the newspaper is the teacher's helping hand. you would be amazed at how many boys interest would "perk up" .. and hey girls too...

when I was a kid, we watched the whole world series on a tv brought into our classroom . (I still think the teachers just "blew off" the day)

any way, you have series averages, different divisions, therefore exploring the map of the nation. you can even get into history, with team names... poitics and civics.


get into the high school years. economics anyone?
