Need some basic advice from AP and TIW veterans

I'm planning two trips that are nearly a year apart (late November 2012 and early November 2013) and would like to use the same AP and TIW card for both (also hoping to get AP room discounts for both). I will be the only one in my party with an AP (everyone else will have MYW tickets).

What's the best way to do this in terms of when and where to buy the: (1) AP; (2) TIW card; and (3) MWY tickets?

Also, any sage advice for dealing with CM's when trying to apply an AP discount to a previously made reservation? Any watch outs?

I can only reply to the last question since I just changed a reservation to a cheaper price with the AP discount. There was absolutely no problem doing it, but they applied the difference to my room account rather than giving it back to me as cash/on the credit card I used.

In the past, I have bought everyone MYW tickets from Undercover Tourist (myself included). After using the tickets once, to lock in current gate price, I go to guest services at that park and upgrade my ticket to the AP and purchase the TIW at the same time.

You might want to wait and see what discounts are offered for November. You might find the best deal is a package that requires tickets. You could book that and then upgrade your ticket to an AP when you get there.
