We are travelling to WDW in late Sept. and are planning a surprise trip to US and IOA directly before. We will be checking into WDW on a Saturday. Where we need advice is, we are debating on staying on US property prior to our stay for 2 nights.

Would you check in on Wed and stay through Friday - going to US and IOA on Thur and Fri and stay in another hotel on Friday night before WDW, or would you stay on US property on Thursday and Friday?

Our concern is getting the most out of one of the parks on the day we check in.

Chances are that we will stay somewhere either the day prior to US/IOA, or the day after. What would you do?

Any advice is appreciated.

Do you really want to change hotels for just one night? I think I would go with the Thursday/Friday at Universal then head over to Disney for Saturday. You can use your key card for FOTL on Saturday before heading over to Disney since you cannot check in until later in the afternoon.

Agreed. You'll save yourself the headache of shuffling around. This way you'll get a full day there. You'll have a great time...we  universal!

We will actually be able to do early check in for WDW on Saturday and head to the parks there.

I'm a bit confused? :confused3

Are you driving or flying into Orlando? When will you arrive? You want to make the most of your time at the Universal hotel since it will give you the FOTL access. In other words, you want to check in at 7AM of day one and checkout after the parks close of day two. This would give you three full days of FOTL with the two nights. I wouldn't worry about checking into the Disney hotel on Saturday morning. I've never found early entry there to be much of a benefit and you won't have FOTL there either. Does that make sense?

SO if you're arriving on Wednesday during the day sometime and want to save some money, stay off site that night. Check into the Universal hotel Thursday morning and stay until Saturday night after the parks close. Check into your Disney hotel Saturday night and have the rest of your time at the Disney parks starting Sunday morning.

Sorry for the confusion - we are confused too. We will be driving to Orlando. Our schedule is a bit flexible. We plan to arrive in Orlando on Wednesday.
We check into our WDW resort on Saturday and bought an extra day on our tix there, so we will be going to WDW on Saturday.
We will be staying offsite one day to maximize our time in the theme parks. So the question is: Should we stay offsite on Wednesday night and check in US property for Thursday and Friday, checking out Sat morning - then off to WDW?

Thinking it through, I am only planning one day at US and one day at IOA. If it were you, would you only stay on property one night to save money?
I did not realize that the overnight stay would give us FOTL for both the checkin and checkout days.
So we plan on US and IOA Thursday and Friday. Then WDW on Sat.

Does that help clarify?

Yes, it makes sense now, but I'd still cut Disney down a day (Sat.) but that is just me! You certainly could do just one night at Universal to save money, but that would be a heck of a lot of moving around since you'd need Thurs. night for your Thurs/Fri at the parks. Three hotels in three nights wouldn't be a good time for us! If the money isn't a huge issue, and you have to be at Disney Saturday morning I'd do the following. Universal Wed./Thurs. nights since you have to have Thursday night for your days at the parks. This will cut down on the stress upon arrival and you won't have to hurry to check in Thursday morning after traveling all day Wed. You'll be there with passes in hand ready to hit early entry for WWOHP. If you get into town at a decent time on Wed., you can have some lovely time by the pool just relaxing and settling in before your thurs./fri. park days. That would mean your offsite would be Friday although for all the trouble I'd probably just book that night at Disney too especially if you're staying in the values and price won't be that huge of a difference. AND, if you are doing free dining it will add another night of credits to your plan. Might be able to do a signature with those credits!

Hope that helps! Have a great trip and don't be surpised if you feel totally pampered at Universal and aren't quite ready to leave for Disney!! :goodvibes

if money is not an issue, stay two nights on site at universal.

you will get 3 days of express line unlimited useage with your hotel card key for the parks.

saturdays are busy no matter where you go for the day.

you might be better off at UO with the express line perk.

go over to disney on late saturday afternoon then.
