We're thinking of renting a car for a day and going to the beach while visiting Disney. What is going to be the best beach for us?

We want something fairly close and accessible. We want a clean beach to relax on in the Florida sun. :sunny:

I was thinking Datona or Cocoa Beach, perhaps?

What do you guys do? Anyone have any suggestions/advise? I'd really appreciate it! :goodvibes :woohoo:

Just go to Typhoon Lagoon. There are waves, sand, and rides. Pluse the less time you spend on Central Florida's roads, the better.

Cocoa Beach and Daytona are ok and definitely the nearest to Orlando.
However, if you want the nicest beaches they are on the other coast, Clearwater and St.Pete's , the sand is pure white and the beaches much wider.
Unfortunatley, it will take you twice as long to get there.

So it depends on how fussy you are I guess?

We found a nice beach a little south of Cocoa called Canova Beach. There were shells everywhere, but it is not good for swimming or surfing (signs said jagged rocks). We just go in far enough to get our ankles wet (we go to the beach mostly to lay in the sun and listen to the waves while the kids dig in the sand, so it was the perfect place for us). The parking was free and there was really no one close by us and we were there in June!!! We were on our way to Cocoa when we found this place.

I think Daytona Beach depends on the time of year you will be visiting - during the "slow" season, it is a nice relaxing beach - during the busy season (like March- bike week) it is insane, cars & motorcycles going up & down the beach in some areas, the crowds are really bad at that time as well

My vote goes for St. pete. It has the best beaches on the gulf. I also think Typhoon lagoon is a good idea too. A sand beach, waves and if its natural wonders you seek, dont forget the shark reef! :thumbsup2

Clearwater/St. Petes will be much more comfortable this time of year as the Gulf water is warmer than the 'Atlantic' side. You'll also find fabulous dining, etc in the area. I'd go there rather than Daytona or Cocoa Beach. If you have children with you, you'll also avoid the rip tides sometimes found on the 'Atlantic' side.
