Hi guys! My husband and I are wanting to have our second child next spring between April and June. I am a teacher so this is our best option. We are going to WDW this September and we can actually "try" for our baby on our trip...that would interesting...lol!! However, the due date would be later in June and we would prefer to have the baby if all went according to due dates sometime in April/May.

My question is if we were to get pregnant in August, I would be a few weeks along when we arrive at WDW in Sept for our free dining trip. What do you think??? Would that be a good thing or bad thing??? Can/Should I ride everything? Morning sickness was not bad for me last time so I am not worried about that. Any advice is appreciated!! We are trying to decide whether to try in August or Sept.!! :goodvibes

There's a relatively high miscarriage rate early on. It wouldn't have been anything you did, or could control, or anything. But if you happened to miscarry on vacation, would that ruin the rest of your vacation and/or taint your associations with Disney?

You'll be too early for morning sickness, or for rides to affect anything.

I've got a seasonal job, and planned DD so that if she came at 37 weeks, I'd still be past the end of the season. So of course, she came at 41w2d.

I would probably ride on everything - BUT I would call my OB first and ask what they thought. My only concern is being sick, feeling nausous and not wanting to eat. Hopefully the 2nd pregnancy would be like the first, but it isn't guaranteed.

I would just go ahead and wait to conceive on the vacation. I think, as a teacher, you should try to have the baby due when school is over and not to be out for the end of the year. my DS5 just had his teacher have a baby in March and it really messed up the end of the year. The sub is trying to wrap it all up and get everything done that needs to be but it took her a while to get things going in the classroom and learn how everything is done. The kids ahd to adjust to a whole new way of learning and class rules and justa basic different way of doing things even though the sub really tried to keep things the same. I think that you should keep the kids in mind for this planning, kind of comes with the job territory. Your class should come first and finish out the year and then yu ahve the summer off wiht the baby.

That's a great thought and all, but as a former teacher and new mom it's not always so easy to do as it is to say. You may have a great "plan" for wanting to have it one way or another, however if you are lucky enough to get pregnant then it is what it is and happens when it does. Although it may take a few days/weeks for the kids in class to adjust -- they will and they won't look back on their school days and think "Geez, I never really got the 'full' school year I was hoping for in 4th grade because my teacher went on maternity leave".

As far as going to Disney pregnant, talk to your OB and listen to his/her advice. Have a great time and good luck! Sending pixie dust your way!!!!:wizard:

Try in August if you wish, it won't hurt anything. Every pregnancy is different so there is no telling how your body will react. Babies are concieved and delivered when the time is right, not necessarily when we plan for them. Everyone will adjust to changes they bring, including the kids in your classroom. Good luck!

I think you're putting the horse before the cart....how are you going to "try" while on vacation with your 2 year old there? That could be a talk no one wants to have with a 2 year old! Also, I've learned with pregnancy and children, nothing goes the way you plan it.

I was 6 weeks pregnant with DD on a trip to Disney ( didn't know it) and honestly, had I known, I wouldn't have done the rides I did. Or drank the beer I did. There's a good chance nothing would happen, but there's also a good chance something could happen, and you'd wonder forever.

There are some good advice here. If you are fortunate enough to get pregnant according to your plan, then try to conceive in August. I conceived in mid-August and baby arrived in early May. Check with your OB about rides. I am conservative and if I was trying to get pregnant, I would not get on the rides. There is enough to do/see in WDW that I wouldn't miss out on the rides. Take care and hope all goes well.

Just a word of advice. I do hope all will work for you as planned. But, be careful not to be too sure about what will happen when. I think it's a little dangerous to say "we will conceive in the 2nd week of September". Things have a way of not always happening on our own timelines, and I know how emotionally wrenching that can be. I have not used birth control for 15 years. I have only one child, and she was conceived "artificially". I do hope you get exactly what your heart desires, but just don't let yourself be set up for too much disappointment.

Thanks so far for some great advice!! I am certainly not meaning to act as though I "will" get pregnant when I want...I know all too much about infertility. One of the reasons I am so organized in my "trying" is because my ob will be putting me on clomid to conceive. It took us a very long time to conceive our son. I guess that's why I would like to start in August and hope to be pregnant by October at the latest. Honestly, and I hope this doesn't get taken the wrong way because I adore my students and job, I am not concerned about the fact that I may get pregnant and have to miss a month of school if I happen to get pregnant in August on our first round of clomid. When you deal with infertility you have to plan ahead and take care of family first. There is no job that will take the special place of beginning and raising a family in my heart and that is just where my priorities lie...doesn't make me a bad teacher though! :) Thanks again for all the advice! I just have all of these thoughts of what to do and how best to handle the issue swimming around in my head and love to hear other people's perspective! Thanks again and keep the great advice coming!!

I say go ahead and start trying in August. In 2007 I went to WDW at 9 weeks pregnant with a 2 yr old son in tow. I didn't ride any of the rides that they said pregnant women should avoid, but it wasn't a big deal because my son wasn't old enough for most of those rides anyway. As someone else said, there are plenty of other things to see and do.

I was about 6 weeks pregnant during our last trip and didn't know it, only suspected when I started throwing up in the mornings on our 4th day... Anyway, we didn't go on any big rides, so that wasn't a problem, but my nausea could have been. This is my third pregnancy and the nausea seems to get worse every time, but very early on it wasn't at its worst. I guess for me I would worry about nausea and exhaustion in the heat more than anything else. Good luck and I hope it all works out easily for you!

It's crazy how things consume your mind and you wind up dreaming about them! Last night, I actually dreamed I was barely pregnant at Disney on our trip...lol!! Funny, huh? Anyways, when I woke up from my dream I realized that most of the rides we ride with the exception of maybe three or four(Test Track, Rock/Roll Coaster, Thunder Mnt, Space Mnt) are pretty harmless. I am not a big thrill seeker at the parks anyways so the above rides are as scary as I get! Basically, I wouldn't miss much! My dream kinda cleared my mind and helped me realize that...

Also, I meant to mention last night to the person who suggested that my dh and I might be having sex in front of our child that this is not an option for us. My in-laws are going on this trip with us and our son (4 years old) has already stated that he is gonna sleep with Meme a couple of nights. So, we will have our hotel room to ourselves a few nights on the trip! Whoo hoo!! We've never had that option before on any of our disney trips b/c it's just been dh, ds and I!:cool1:

Wow, that is a tough one to decide! You hate to plan your life out based on "what ifs" too... For me, I would probably wait to try until the trip. Just because I had a great first pregnancy and then a miscarraige with the second and two difficult ones after that. I had horrible morning sickness from 6 weeks on and starting bleeding at 6 weeks with both. I traveled around 6 weeks with my first to CO and had no trouble, but I would have been miserable with the boys. I didnt feel well at all and the bleeding was really scary and upsetting. I would not have enjoyed the trip one bit. But once again, it is all a big what if. If only you could see what the future holds, huh?!!

Best of luck to you though! And I agree that while your job as a teacher is very very important, you should not have to plan your life around the school year. That gives you a very small window of time. I think as parents most of us would agree that family comes first in anything we do. That doesnt mean you cant be a great teacher or nurse or lawyer or whatever.... but when you are happy at home, everything else goes more smoothly!

Good luck and have a wonderful trip whatever you decide and I hope it happens quickly for you this time around!

We have been "trying" for nearly 3 years and have had many "what ifs" along the way.

I have to advise you not to think like that, because as those dates approach you feel even worse if you are not pregnant yet.

Please be aware the secondary infertility is more common than people think or know - that is when you have 1 baby and the 2nd just does not quite work out.

We booked our bounceback last year and at the time thought "There is no way we will be able to come - we will be pregnant". Guess what, we are going and we are not pregnant.

We are taking a 2 month break from trying right now - so that I do not have morning sickness at the world and so that I am still able to go to the 2010 Olympics in Feb (another "what if").

I just wanted to point out another side, so that you do not get too hung up on plans going perfectly.

Amy

I just made an appt with my OBGYN who guided us through our infertility problems the first time around. I plan on asking her about risks on the trip when I meet with her!! Like I said before, I am not going to be shocked if I am not preggers by fall but I think the wisest people plan for the best and prepare for the worst. Here's to planning and hoping and preparing! ;)

Not exactly true for everyone. With #1 & #3 I was vomiting about three times a day by two weeks after conception - what would be considered exactly 4 weeks pregnant!

You know, as a teacher I thought this as well. We planned our pregnancy so that I would be able to finish the year. I got pregnant and was due two days after school got out. Then I miscarried at 12 weeks.

Second time around, we tried to plan it so that I would miss as little school as possible. Got pregnant and and my due date was the end of July. I would miss the first few weeks of school. Not ideal, but that was what it was. Then I miscarried at 16 weeks.

Third time around, I didn't give a damn about when I was due because sometimes even teachers have to think about themselves and what is good for them and their family. Got pregnant and I was due in March. Then I miscarried again at 22 weeks.

There are many people who feel teachers should plan their lives around the school year. Teaching is my life and my students are dear to me, I would give anything to them to make their lives better. However, it comes to a point when we can't just think of the students and what might be best for them. We have to think of ourselves first.

OP, good luck and I will send positive thoughts your way in your quest for a healthy baby. Whatever happens, just remember school will still be there and students will still learn.

Monsterkitty...Thank you so much for the encouragement that you are sharing with me despite your very rough experiences!! I really appreciate that! I feel like you. I love my job, see it as a ministry in my life not just as a job and I do it 100% when I am there but it will never been the top priority in my life above my children/husband/God. I realized last time we got pregnant that things just don't go as planned so like I said previously, we plan and hope for the perfect but don't expect it. I am thankful no matter how it all pans out! Thanks again for being such an inspiration!! :)
