I am going to purchase (2) so cal city passes. However, I'm confused on how to plan the week..We are planning to either leave Oct 18th (SUNDAY night) or OCT 19th (MONDAY night) and we are from Vegas. We are planning to do Seaworld/Zoo in the same day and its the first day we want to do it. Also want to do 1 day at Universal and Disney for 2 days. We want to stay in DLH for one night.

There are a couple different plans I thought of:

  • Plan A
  • Sunday: (18th) Leave Vegas for San Diego
  • Monday: (19th) Zoo/Seaworld, probably get hotel in Anaheim close to Disney
  • Tuesday: (20th) Disneyland/Ca Adv (take adv. of MM part of 3 park hopper tix)
  • Wednesday: (21st) Universal Studios
  • Thursday: (22) check in DLH in the AM, hit the parks, (take adv. of MM from hotel)
  • Friday (23) visit relatives in Westminster then go back home to Vegas mid-afternoon
With this plan we could possibly stay in same hotel from Monday (19th)-thursday in the AM (22)

  • Plan B
  • Sunday (18) Leave Vegas to San Diego
  • Monday (19) Zoo/Seaworld, stay in an Anaheim hotel
  • Tuesday (20) Disney/Cal Adv (maybe stay in DLH this night?)
  • Wednesday (21) Disney/Cal Adv
  • Thursday (22) Universal Studios
  • Friday (23) visit family in Westminster (about 50 miles away from Universal), then head back home to Vegas

  • Plan C
  • Monday (19) leave Vegas, night time, stay in San diego
  • Tuesday (20) Zoo/Seaworld
  • Wednesday (21) Universal Studios
  • Thursday (22) Disney/Cal Adv (use MM from 3 day hopper pass)
  • Friday (23) Disney/Cal Adv (check in DHL in the am)
  • Saturday (24) visit relatives in Westminster, go home to Vegas

  • PLAN D
  • Monday (19) Leave Vegas, around night
  • Tuesday (20) Zoo/Seaworld
  • Wednesday (21) Disneyland (stay night in DHL, maybe)
  • Thursday (22) Disney/Cal Adv
  • Friday (23)universal Studios (maybe even take advantage of the Horror nights at Universal, never done it, kind of interested)
  • Saturday (24) Visit relatives, head home

Ya, i have been doing nothing but thinking of a good plan. Which days are best to do any of these parks? Which plans would u go for or can you think of a plan E, or F? lol...any advice would be great..u guys have been helpful all the time, so i appeciate it! THANKS in advance!

also, what days are suppose to be least busiest? I know its the Halloween month so really no day is going to be NOT busy.

I think you are underestimating the time needed to see the zoo and Seaworld. If you hustle, you can barely see most of the zoo in a day. Same goes for Seaworld and all of its shows. In my opinion, they both deserve one full day, but I don't think your schedule is that flexible.

Is the So. Cal City Pass really worth it if you go to the zoo or Seaworld and you are only using 2 days at DLR?

I'm doing some rough calculations. SCCPs are $259 each. If you were to go just to Seaworld, 2 days of Disney, and USH the total tickets costs would be ($65 + $151 + $69) = $285 without any kind of discounts (those prices are tickets at the gate). If you choose the zoo instead of Seaworld, it would be $255. Plus, you can always find some kind of discount for Seaworld, the zoo, or USH through AAA or somewhere online (10% off zoo, $15 off Seaworld with some special McDonald's coupon, etc.). You can even find 2 day DLR tickets for a couple bucks less. Check out http://www.mousesavers.com/ to see if the SCCP is really a good deal.

However, out of the 4 plans, I would choose D, especially if you decide not to go with the City Pass because that would get you MM if you stay at DLH.

I think it would be a great deal esp sincecostco has it for $227 :P $32 cheaper..

How busy do you think DLAND/Cal Adv would be on OCT 23, Friday?

I agree about doing the zoo AND seaworld in one day. We have Seaworld season passes for here in San Antonio. You cannot scratch the surface in half a day

Before I scratched the San Diego area all together I was also going to do the zoo and Sea World both in one day. The Zoo closes at 4, so after that I was going to head to Sea World for their night time shows. Yes, I would miss some things there, but it seemed that the night time things appealed to me most. I think if you plan it right you can do the *KEY* things that interest your family at both places. For example, my main reason for wanting to go to the zoo was because I wanted to see the Pandas and Sea World for their acrobatic night show. I could totally fit Pandas and the acrobats in!!! I'd say just don't expect to get EVERYTHING done and you'll be fine. :goodvibes

Also, to me, plan B makes the most sense. You can sneak the kids into Anahiem, and wake up there the next morning ready to hit the parks. Also, you can have a break from driving EVERY day. Finally, I don't know how old your kids are but we decided not to do Universal because there didn't seem to be too much there for our babies to do. PLENTY for the adults to enjoy, though. ;) Something to think about.

I got the impression that the OP doesn't have kids (or at least they are not coming on the trip) because they are only buying 2 So. Cal City Passes.

I knew that! Of course I knew that! I mean it's right there, in the first line, who would miss THAT? I was just making a point...ah....for someone else who might be reading...about Universal Studios. Yeah. That's the ticket. :rolleyes1

:rotfl2:

ya its just the 2 of us. No kids. We have done seaworld so we would probably just catch the shows and do the rides. And we can do the zoo pretty fast..thats why we decided to do that park in one day.

we've been to universal hundreds of times but never the horror nights they have there...hrmm

One thing to keep in mind - Seaworld is only open until 5:00pm during the week so there are no night shows except Saturday or Sunday.(The reason I know is that we are doing DLR and San Diego that week as well)
So that really makes it tight to do both in one day.
