Need some advice on changing package

I currently have a "free" dining package booked at POFQ March 3-11. It's myself,Dh,dd5 and my mother. Its a really good deal for us with 3 adults and 1 child at a moderate resort.

So my aunt called me and said she wanted to join us march 3-7. I'm really excited as I havnt seen her in a long time. She was talking with my mother about it & how they wouldn't mind sharing a bed for those few days. I know that I can only have 4 in a room at POFQ so that's not what I'm asking.

These are the options that I have been considering.

-get a second room at POFQ if they even have one available.

-lose "free" dining and upgrade to BC or BW using an AP discount since they do allow 5 to a room.

If anyone has any advice on what they would do I would really appreciate it. I know 5 in a room would be crowded but we really don't mind. We are just happy to be able to spend the time together. I havnt even checked availability at POFQ and with all the promotions they have going on I don't even know if we could get a second room..just when I thought I had it all planned out of course the plans change. But it is a good change so I'm happy:)

Have you considered POR? Your 5yo could sleep on the new murphy bed.

I would either try to change to POR, as poster said, or have your aunt reserve a room at FQ with free dining if she can get it for the dates she is joining you. Your mom can still stay on your room res, but share the room with her sister for those days. You can request adjoining rooms.

I believe there is a room discount running for that time. Your aunt could get that if she can't get free dining, possibly. I believe you are paying an extra adult charge for your mother, too.

Moving to a room that holds 5 could be a good option for you if you can keep the free dining and move to POR in a room for 5. The additional adult charges are considerably less than the cost of the dining plan each day.

I just upgraded from POR to BWI during March 29- April 8 and kept our free dining and it didnt' effect any of our dining reservations. The first CM said I couldn't do it it without losing my current reservation, but I told her the online CM said it was no issue to upgrade. Anyways, the first CM disconnected my call when "transferring to a supervisor", and I called right back. Got an awesome CM on the line who said it was no issue to upgrade she would just need to override the system or have a supervisor do it. She was able to do it herself and now we are at BWI :yay:.

Now, adding an additional adult into the mix, I don't know if that is technically the same as what I did, but it wouldn't hurt to call and ask. I do know for sure that you could upgrade, just make sure if your CM isn't sure you can do it without losing free dining, you push for a supervisor. Good Luck :thumbsup2

I'm going to call tomorrow to ask about changing to POR but since the free dining promotion ended last month I'm pretty sure I won't be able to switch resorts. That would be great though. If I can't do that I'm just going to book another room at POFQ,hopefully they will have something available with the annual passholder discount..thanks for the replies!

Thanks! This gives me some hope that I can change resorts and keep free dining.

I just checked and they do have availability at POFQ in a Garden View. Your best bet, if you go the 2nd room route, is to do your aunt's reservation under the brand new "Get One Day Free" Promotion. From March 3 - 7, POFQ with 4-day base ticket, cost is $906.35. It's a much better deal than the current room-only discount offer.

There is also availability at POR, BW and BC. As another PP said, I don't think you are going to have trouble transferring your free dining promo to another resort so you can fit 5 in your room. The only issue (and it might be worth it), your aunt will have to have the same package that you have. So, although free dining won't be an issue, she is going to have to have the same park ticket you have under the package. Maybe that isn't an issue? I don't know how many park days you put on your package tickets.

I would call CRO and price your options out! Just yesterday I had to change a reservation that I had booked under a now expired room-only code. The check-in date is now 4 weeks later, but the CM applied the old code so I still got the discount. If I can change dates with an old code, I don't see why you can't change resorts?!!!

DisneyWishes14,
Thanks for the info! (I'm pretty new to posting on the disboards and I'm having a little trouble with the quotes:rotfl:)

I'm going to call tomorrow morning to price out different options. I thought that after the free dining promotion ended that I couldn't switch resorts but I'm glad to hear that it may be a possibility.

I love the disboards. People are so helpful and I've gotten such great advice on here!

Another piece of advice - don't tell them you're willing to book a second room. I have heard horror stories of CMs who will prefer to do what's good for them and their quota, rather than what's best for you. Just tell them you have an aunt who wants to join your party and you need to transfer your reservation to a resort that sleeps 5 and keep your free dining discount. To keep it in budget, you need POR. That's ALL you should say.

If that's not possible, ask why. If she gives you date or expiration reasons, tell her that you know it's possible to do and could she check with a supervisor.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm going to call tomorrow to ask about changing to POR but since the free dining promotion ended last month I'm pretty sure I won't be able to switch resorts.

Yes, you can switch your resort & keep your FD even though the promotion ended. We were able to do the switch successfully last year. I worried about it but had no issues! :thumbsup2

If you are told no, thank the CM, hang up and phone back. Repeat if necessary. Ask for Guest Services if necessary.

With four adults in the room, you are going to have to pay the extra adult fee times two. In a deluxe, that is $50 a night more.

I completely changed my reservation around. First,I called and I was told that yes I could change the reservation if they had availably. They checked POR but they didn't have anything available for my dates. Which I figured since the promotion already ended. So what I did was change our reservation for POFQ to March 7-11. And on March 3-7 we are staying at BC which I booked with the AP discount. I know not very many people are fans of split stays but I just figured we could check out of the BC on the 7th,load our luggage into our vehicle and go to one of the parks until around 3 and then drive to POFQ and hopefully our room will be ready. It's not at all what I planned when I booked the trip but we'll make it work and I'm not going to stress over it.

I always thought if I did a split stay I would do a moderate first and then a deluxe but we really love POFQ so i don't think it will be like that. Also, the beach club part of the trip will be a little more relaxing than when we switch to POFQ. My aunt is coming from the west coast so I'm sure we won't be doing rope drop during those days like we normally do. When we get to POFQ we will be leaving the resort for rope drop coming back in the afternoon for a break and back to a park in the evening. We love the boat to downtown Disney so we will do that one night.

Sorry for rambling,I'm just so excited for this trip! Thanks for all the advice. :)
