I love my Canon A620,but want something smaller to put in my purse. I'm afraid to get a camera without an optical viewfinder. What do you recommend for bright sunny Florida and the Bahamas - Disney cruise:yay: ?
I'm afraid I won't be able to take a single picture the entire holiday! Does anyone not have a problem seeing the LCD screen in the bright sun?

They make these popup shades to go over the screen for cameras without a viewfinder. I have a nice slim Coolpix L6 but find it not quite as quick as the A560 I have. It is more pocketable and does take nice photos.

thanks, I'll be sure to look for that. I did find a Panasonic camera that has a great zoom and a 3" LCD screen. I guess maybe it might be cheaper (but not as much fun) if I just find a plain pouch I could just slip my camera into in my purse. I bought a travelmate purse, which fits my camera in its present carrying case, but leaves little room for much else. Gee, what should I do - new camera...or...smaller case?? $200 or.........$20 ?? :ccat:

My A620 *is* my smaller camera!

Yes, it does fit nicely in my wife's purse.

Actually, my 30D and a couple of lenses, would fit in her Mary Poppin's purse, too, but she would have to take out a few necessary items, such a pedestal lamp, our dog, etc...

Seriously, the Canon SD series is only about 3oz lighter. If you get anything smaller, your risk loosing functionality and wind up using a "toy" camera.

Yes, you're right, I might lose quality of pictures and I certainly don't want that.
Paul, what kind of case does your wife have that protects her camera in her purse?

I also have camera/purse issues and am taking both my digital rebel xti and my canon powershot to see if I end up being a big baby and not wanting to carry two lenses for my rebel. I don't want to take a really big camera bag though, so I got the skooba roadwired wraps so I can carry my lens/body in my timbuk2 metro without having to have a bulky case. I don't think I'd trust them for carry on luggage, but they have a good amount of padding and you can wrap them any way you want to.

I keep my A620 in a small padded case that I found at Walmart made by Case Logic. That keeps in from being scratched by car keys and cell phone when riding inside my wife's purse. When alone, I wear with a belt loop and shoulder strap. It also fit inside a big pocket in a bulky winter coat.

I just bought the Canon Powershot Digital Elph SD870 IS.

It's small, light, and takes amazing pictures.

We probably have the same one. :thumbsup2 I love this one, it's very lightweight and has a long strap so you can just sling it over your shoulder. It was only around $8. ;) I have the Canon SX100.

The skooba roadwired wrap looks nice. They're velcro sticky on the corners and will stick to any place outside or inside of the wrap. Cost about $10, come in 3 sizes. Hopefully they'll work well!

I'll post an image when I take a pic of it with my rebel in it.

So, you out these wraps on and then throw the camera in whatever bag you're carrying?

Yep! I'm putting them in my Timbuk2 Metro bag (really small messenger bag) for the parks. I don't think I'll use just the wraps for carry on luggage though since that can get banged around a lot more. I think they'd be fine with them and I probably will for my Canon Powershot. Depends on how much room I end up having.
