Need room recommendation at Poly

Hi all.....

So we're going on a land/sea package at the end of April 2006. Our TA says that when we start requesting rooms is when the pricing goes up. I was wondering if there's a great room to request that would keep our same pricing. We have the standard garden view @ the Polynesian.

We'd prefer 1st floor, being convienent to the monorail (since we'll have DD 4 & DD 21 months) and perhaps a great view (maybe of the pool or something?)!

Any suggestions?!

Look at tikiman2001's site. He has the best Poly info. I am pretty much looking for the same thing as you and I requested Fiji because the marina view is still garden priced and my second request was for Nuie (sp?) because it's near the GCH, monorail and you can get pool views. There really isn't a bad place to be though, they all have their pros and cons. Good luck!

Requesting a room doesn't raise the price, the view does. So if you get a standard garden view, it will be cheaper than a standard lagoon view and so on.

However, just requesting a specific room doesn't give the room scheduler much to go on if that room is already occupied.

So go with a building or type of view, maybe smoking or not, handicapped or not, higher floor or lower floor, etc.

I would request the Samoa bldg facing the Volcano pool. My family and I had room 3603 Garden view room and when I sat out on the balcony I had a pretty good view of the lagoon and the GF. I thought it was a great view and I'm going to try for it next time I go. It's a lagoon style view at a garden view price.

The nice thing about the Polly is that there are just two (non conceirge) room categories -- lagoon view and garden view. Many other resorts break out the pricing much more specifically. As long as you specify garden view, then the price shouldn't go up. To be "safe" I would request a 1st or 3rd floor as your top choice (older buildings have no balconies on the 2nd floor). After that, give them general buildings you would like.

Thanks guys! Wow, Tikiman's website is overwhelming... it's great, don't get me wrong. Now, I have a bit of homework reading to do, I suppose. Nuie sounds good.... close to monorail and views to the pool, but still priced as a garden. It sounds like we at least picked the best hotel. We've never been to WDW.... it's so spread out.... unlike here in Southern California where they had to tear out the old Disneyland parking lot to put California Adventure in its place. No land... Disney wasn't really thinking about that when they purchased land in LA, huh?

We stayed in Niue and loved it. It's the smallest building at the Poly. Our room faced the quiet pool but the volcano pool and food court was just steps away.

I would recommend room #1913 in the Tokelau building. This is considered "garden view", but I had an amazing view of the lagoon & Grand Floridian. Woke up one morning to see hot air balloons flying over the GF. This is a 1st floor room, has a nice patio, is close to the "quiet" pool, and not a bad walk to the TTC or main building & monorail.

Leaving in 2 weeks for the Poly . I requested Tahiti when the ressies were made because I wanted to be close to TTC. In the meantime I've been reading all the posts, going over Tikimans site, hemming and hawing about this building and that building etc. etc. etc. You know what? I decided that when I get to the check in desk, I'm just going to smile and keep my mouth shut! I really don't care what room they give me! I'm so happy to finally be going to the Poly, let them surprise me! The less I worry about, the happier I am. I'm going to have a great time in whatever room I end up in!

We just returned from Poly. I too had wanted Tahiti, but we were placed in Rarotonga instead. We had first floor facing quiet pool. The view wasn't great as there was some bushes, but it was private for sitting on the patio. I absolutely loved this building!!! We have a DD 2 yrs old and it was so convenient to the food and monorail. We love Epcot and MK the best so it worked out fine. We even walked one day to TTC to catch the Epcot monorail but you could also take the monorail from GCh around to TTC. It is a little round a bout but does save walking.
None of the buildings are a bad choice as the property is not too spread out. But I would highly recommend Rarotonga. It is close to both pools and GCH. It was renovated fairly recently - 2003? - so it was in good shape. ( I may be wrong, but I thought Niue was smoking?)
You will have agreat time no matter where you stay. It is a wonderful resort, so relaxing and beautiful. Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks. It's reports like this that prove my suspicions that even when we request a certain building and get a totally different one, we still end up happy as a clam! So, I'm not going to worry a hoot what longhouse I'm in!
