I have never rented a car before and feel totally overwhelmed. I've checked with my Visa cc and also my car insurance company. The Visa supposedly covers collison and my insurance covers collision and comprehensive. So I would not need to purchase any insurance through the rental company. Right? Also what are the best deals for Sept 1st-8th and then Oct 27th-Nov 4th? It's just the two of us, so I was thinking a midsize car would be fine.

Also check your insurance to see if your 3rd party liability extends to the rental car. The credit card won't but your own insurance should. The liability covers the other car/person that you damage/injure.

The $20 off weekly coupon code at budget gives a rate of $186 after all taxes & fees for the September rental. Alamo's $20 off weekly gives almost the same rate.

For the November rental, I'd book the best rate you can find now & keep checking later as you can always cancel & rebook as they sometimes run better discounts as the date gets closer, but I always book something I can fall back on in case that doesn't happen.
