I have eaten at Mama Melrose's and Brown Derby and wanted to try something new. Is the food at the place that you sit in cars like a Drive-in any good?

We had dinner there in May (Sci Fi) and I really liked it - I know lunch is usually the most recommended meal, and it is good as well, but we were more than pleased with our experience. My only complaint is that my catfish had no taste, but DH's pasta was flavorful, the spinach dip was great, and the sides were good. I just wouldn't order the catfish again. Other than that, we had a good meal, seated quickly, good service, and a fun atmosphere. Prices are reasonable too.

Another fave of mine is 50's PT, mostly because I think the food is great! The atmosphere is fun, esp if your family enjoys playing with the waitstaff.

we did not enjoy our meal at sci fi at all... we were uncomfortable in the cars, the "Table" space was far too narrow for the size of the plates... the service was not good... the waiter tried real hard to "sell" my kids on the glow cubes after i gave him the "hi sign" to stop marketing them to my children (and yeah, we caved and bought them, but i was pissed that the first ten mins of the meal turned into a "beg fest" ugh!)... and the food was mediocre (although it might have seemed better had we not been served our appys and our meals w/in three mins of each other and then have an hour lag waiting for our desserts!)... did i mention the poor service?

in previous years we have always enjoyed our dinner at Hollywood & Vine... excellent buffet... lots to choose from... some basic, some foods not found elsewhere... methinks we'll go back there next trip and recommend it! :flower:

our service was really bad( about 45 min wait to get seated in a 2/3 empty rest. then a good 45-50 mins to get our food, long wait for the check ,we were there about 2 hrs total), did not like having to sit with strangers( we were only 2 and the put us with a family) and the food was expensive..husband got a burger( burnt.. he ordered it med but evidently they cooked it for the entire 45 mins.), i got a bowl of lukewarm soup( normal soup bowl size, about 1 cup of soup total), we got 2 cokes and the tab was $24+ at lunch

My DW, DD, and I had a great lunch at Prime Time Cafe in 1999. The atmosphere is fun and the desserts are really good. We are trying Sci Fi Drive In this trip however.

If you like buffet style try the Hollywood & Vine. To us the food was good quality considering it's a buffet. We're eating there again this December in conjunction with the Fantasmic package.

For me - The Sci-Fi is an absolute must-do each and every vacation.
I vacation solo. I originally requested the whole "car" to myself because I did not want to share the same car with a family. They said that they could not do that. It was OK, but to my surprise, I did not feel uncomfortable at all.
I got the rear table, and everyone is looking at the screen, anyway. I had a cheeseburger and a baked potato, which was just fine. I enjoyed it, and it still is a must-do for my vacation this December.

Having done 50's PT and Sci-Fi -for us 50's is the the definite winner hands down for food! It also has a fun/different/neat atmosphere! My recommendation is 50's!
