Not sure if we're (I'm) just freaking out, but I have to know the answer to these questions to sleep tonight and Member Svcs. is closed. Can anyone help?

To sum up, we purchased a 25-point add-on today sort of spur-of-the-moment and I'm having buyer's remorse. If we already gave our credit card number and the contract has been processed and the points are in our account, but we didn't officially "sign" anything, it can't have "closed" yet, and we didn't use the points to book anything, can we back out tomorrow with a phone call??

Also, one more question: we borrowed some points from our 2012 use year to book a trip for a couple months from now. If we cancel that trip, I know we can't put the points back in 2012. However, could we "reallocate" those points toward our fall trip which is already booked with 2011 points, then bank those 2011 points to 2012?

Please help!

I'd call and try to back out. If you have buyer's remorse it is probably for a good reason.

They'll probably reallocate those points for you. I've had that done before and it wasn't a big deal.

What's your UY?

And you should be able to back out of the purchase.

Do you really, really think we'll be able to back out of the add-on AND reallocate the points? Do they let you not purchase once they've charged you?? And can they really re-allocate points without cancelling the reservation??

If you booked the trip at 7 months out with non-home resort points and the points are non-home resort points, you should be able to swap them out. If it was booked at 7-11 months out with home resort points and these are the same home resort, you should be able to swap. But if it was booked 7-11 months out with home resort points and these are not home resort points, you'll have to cancel and rebook.

Not sure I follow, so let me elaborate and you can tell me which category I fit into:

Today, I booked the August trip that I want to cancel. I booked it at AKV using my borrowed 2012 BWV points. I want to swap those points into the October trip.

The October trip I want to swap the borrowed points TO was booked at the 11-month mark at BWV using my 2011 UY BWV points.

Do you think that means cancelling/re-booking or swapping?

If you want to use BWV points for a BWV reservation, you should be fine.

Yes, with that scenario you should be able to reallocate the points used for your Oct trip.

Also, you have 10 days from the date you sign the contract to recind so you will have no problem with that either. Since you haven't even signed you may be able to cancel with a phone call but they might request a fax.

You will be able to cancel the purchase. I know someone who changed her mind after an impulse buy and it was no problem. Not sure if she had to fax something or just contacted the guide and said to stop it.

As far as points, I do think that they should now allow you to use borrowed points for that Oct reservation since, as mentioned, they are BWV points and you are using them for a BWV reservation.

Good luck!

Thank you all so much! These boards are just great for getting information you can't get anywhere else (at least at this time of night), and I'm feeling relieved.

Well...almost fully relieved...I just checked and since the Oct trip uses 8 less points than I borrowed for the trip I'm going to cancel, I guess I'm just going to lose those 8 points (no other trips planned 'til 2012), but I guess that's far better in the end than what I could've lost.

What a nightmare...how can you be so sure of something one minute and so unsure (or sure it's a mistake) the next minute? Does anyone else do this?

Just a word about reallocating. Most CMs at MS are knowledgable about this process but if you happen to get someone who does not seem to be up to speed, just hang up and call back.

Florida law generally (or perhaps always) gives the right to rescind timeshare purchases. I don't know the rescission period, but 10 days after signing the contract sounds right. So, I think you have a legal right to cancel your new purchase. I can't imagine Disney giving you a hard time about it. When rescinding a timeshare, one should always do it in writing, preferably with a method that provides a delivery receipt. It can't hurt to rescind both by phone or fax and by mail.

Do you really, really think we'll be able to back out of the add-on AND reallocate the points? Do they let you not purchase once they've charged you??
It is not a question of what anyone here thinks -- it's FLORIDA LAW. You have TEN DAYS from the date you sign the sales agreement to change your mind. The legal term is "rescind" and that ten-day period is called the "recision period."

When you get the sales agreement, you should see that clearly spelled out. But I wouldn't wait. Call Member Administration and rescind -- they will probably ask you to fax them a letter.
And can they really re-allocate points without cancelling the reservation??
Yes, it's done all the time -- no biggie.

Let us know how it all turns out today!

It's all good!

We had no problem canceling the add-on. Our guide was so nice and understanding, and simply requested that we send her an e-mail so she had the request in writing. We should be getting our refund.

Also, yes, Member Services would have allowed us to reallocate the points, but after canceling the add on, we also found out that we would not have to cancel our August trip after all, so that all wound up OK, too. But, it is good to know for future reference how the reallocation rules work anyway (will remember that BWV points can be reallocated to BWV ressies).

So, so relieved! Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond with this information. I so appreciate it!
