She's making her confirmation in 10 days and my DM and I would like to go together and get her a "fun" purse that would kind of mark this growing up part of her life. We can't afford Coach, unfortunately. Do 14yo's even use purses yet? What brand/color/style would be good?

If not a purse, any better idea? Looking to spend about $100-$150 at most (or will get her a cheaper one and put cash in the wallet in it;)). We have access to most major stores and outlet mall, as well...

TIA!
Terri

Oh, how nice....

What's she like? Pony tail girl or hair down? Makeup or natural?

Tell me more about her, and I can find you something. I love gift shopping and consider myself good at it. ;)

And what's your budget?

You can easily get a smaller Coach purse in your price range, especially if you have an outlet near you. Most 14 year olds I know are asking for Coach purses or similar so that shouldn't be a worry. Even a cute Coach wristlet would be a nice gift.

Thanks, ladies! She's definitely a "girlie-girl", plays volleyball/softball/clarinet, hangs with some sort of mean/clique-y girls, so we want to get her something so she'll fit in. Goes to an upper middle-class suburban school. Still wears a lot of purple/pink.

There's a coach outlet on the IL line by my mom, so that's doable, or online is fine, too...

Look at this one - $158

And you can look on the Coach website by price. Go under handbags, then Show All.

Then, a drop-down menu pops up and you can put in for the under $200 listings.

I'm just picking Coach because you mentioned it. My niece is 21 (the nearest female I know near 14!) and she loves Betsey Johnson bags. I think they might be too "shouty" for a 14 year-old, though.

This one only comes in black/silver - but it's still cute: $138

I'm not a fan of those C's ....never have been, though.

The teens around here really go for Vera Bradley. My DD always liked the smaller ones, like this wristlet.

I have a 14 year old dd, and I can't pick out a purse for her (but her friends can). Heck, I don't know if I could pick out socks (but santa did leave her some VS panties that she's been wearing). I bet she'd really appreciate a gc to one of her favorite stores (my dd likes sephora, VS, Delia's, Wet Seal...). Trying to pick pit clothing and accessories for teenage girls is next to impossible, unless you are one.

This is SO cute. It is squishy, too. It feels comfortable in your hand.

I know. That one is totally my favorite of the ones I posted. How cute would that be with jeans, a T shirt and some flip flops?

My DD14 won't go anywhere without her purse and she loves purses. DD12 likes purses too, but I think in high school they are more of a "need" as girls have reached puberty, if you get my drift, plus most are allowed to wear make-up, so they have to carry all their "supplies" around.

I don't know what DD14 has in hers, but it weighs a TON! :lmao:

DD12 is begging for a Coach purse. I am considering getting her one for her 13th birthday. I did not realize there were any to be had for these prices, though! Her chances of getting one have gone way up, thanks to this thread. :thumbsup2

OP, I think your goddaughter will be thrilled with your gift!

Thanks, everyone, I like that pink squishy one, too, but it is nerve wracking picking something out for a 14 yo! She can exchange it if we get her one she doesn't like, right?

Keep the ideas coming!

Here is my take from a mom of a 15 year (almost 16 year old) girl. That pink squishy one is a little Barbie Dollish looking and while many secure, grown up women would be fine using it, it looks a little on the baby side to me and might not be something a teen girl would like.

I would get something a little more classic looking, something that LOOKS coach, afterall, that is the reason they WANT a Coach bag.
