Need purse ideas for 14yo goddaughter

Thanks, everyone, I like that pink squishy one, too, but it is nerve wracking picking something out for a 14 yo! She can exchange it if we get her one she doesn't like, right?

Keep the ideas coming!
Terri

Yes, she can exchange it at any Coach store.

Do you know any of her peers? Would you be able to contact them through their parents to see what her set of friends is into carrying?

I agree with golfgal, I have a 15 (almost 16 year old) also. She wears a Longchamp bag now or a Coach. If you go Coach I would definitely go Classic Coach. Vera Bradley was big around here in middle school but definitely not high school.

Thanks theincredibles for the link. Yes, it's a Catholic church rite. It's kind of moved around over the years, I was 17, DS was only 8, now DGD is doing it at 14. My relatives got me some cool "grown up" gifts, though, and I always remembered that, so thought I'd do the same for her. I'm going back to thinking about one of the classic "c" ones, now, since I do want her to be able to use it "forever"....

Terri, what is "confirmation"?:confused3

It's sort of the equivalent of the Catholic First Holy Communion.

I had a Lutheran friend who did this at that age. Basically, they are "confirmed" in their faith, after going through several months of confirmation classes. I think the idea is that the child is now old enough to choose for herself to take the beliefs of the Church as her own.

I hope that wasn't too religious. :flower3:

ETA - wow, I posted too slow. And I learned something. I thought the Catholics called it First Communion and protestants called it confirmation, but I see this is indeed the Catholic rite.

Also, my DD's both want the classic C purse. Like someone said, they want it to LOOK like a Coach purse. :) Plus DD12's name starts with "C" so she likes to think the C's are for her - lol.

Burberry, D&B, Coach. Been through all that with mine, they love this stuff.

I realy like the Op Art C's instead of the Logo C's. The Op Art ones are more like a circle and look classier to my tastes.

I suppose if you really wanted to make sure she get what she wants, you can either do a gift card (impersonal!) or offer to take her shopping with you.

My husband did this for my niece's 21st birthday. We were in Las Vegas for the event and he "kidnapped" her and a taxi and they had a ball. She got exactly what she wanted and he got some alone time with his niece.

Ha! My initials are DB, so you better believe I buy Dooney bags with their cute DB logos all over them!

Catholics have both First Communion and Confirmation. First Communion happens in 2nd grade (mostly) and Confirmation somewhere in the teen years.

My dd ( around that same age) also loves juicy bags. She has juicy, coach, and vera bradley. Gosh that sounds bad, but we do shop at outlets most of the time and many were gifts. :goodvibes

I'm the mom of two girls and I would suggest that you look at a Longchamp purse or one from JPK handbags. Coach purses are still OK but they are not as popular as they used to be with older teens. If you do go with a Coach handbag, I would shy away from the pink one.

9th. grade around here for confirmation. My wife teaches both.

I'm gonna put in one more opinion. The pink squishy one is very *in* right now, that look. Hence why Coach has it in their Spring line. You're going to see other lines come out with that look.

If she is indeed a girly-girl, it's not going to be considered babyish. I think the classic C one's, look old ladyish, for a girly-girl.

JMO.... :cool2:

The teenage girls (MS and HS) LOVE LOVE LOVE Vera Bradley, but I realize that's somewhat of a regional thing. Very big in the Northeast. My daughter is a majorette, and all the girls came to practice last night with new Veras from Christmas.

I don't know much about purse brands but I can tell you I am obsessed with the Harajuku Lovers line! Actually anything from the line (have a tattoo & all lol!)! My 13 year old Niece loves them as well! The other purses everyone posted are super cute as well!

Saw these at TJ MAXX recently. DD11's friend loves this line. It's really popular with the manga/anime crowd.

Um...I can't COUNT the number of purses I lost, forgot, misplaced from 12-16! No wonder I didn't get my first expensive bag until I was 18. I would never spend over $50 on a purse for that age group in case it got left behind at a restaurant (I did that a few times), misplaced (at church, at school, at sports practices), etc....

I'd spend less on the purse and put the extra in the wallet -- she'll LOVE having the cash.
