Need present ideas for 9 almost 10 yo who has "everything". $125 Budget

I raised 3 boys very close in age and toys were shared, passed down, whatever. GM and GP went all out and got them so many big gifts but this was gift that kept on giving. You said you live close to the Grandparents but have you ever considered... toolboxes? Complete with a starter set of tools. They have awesome kits at Lowes to get them interested in making small projects.
It's good Dad or Grandpa time and they are learning a skill they may enjoy or need later. My boy's loved learning how to use the tools and make lamps, shelves, lots of other stuff. They all have ther own and now we supplement them with power tools and such. 2 are still in college now but they all love their toolboxes. Of course, the size has changed from those first small boxes
It all started with Pinewood Derby cars in Cub Scouts.
Just a thought!

Oh, this is funny. We actually have this planned for later this year as there is sort of a tradition around it. Youngest DS is a cub scout (and his brothers are Boy Scouts; oldest gets his Life next month :cool1:) and as part of his Bear requirements will be building a tool box either in January or February. As with his older brothers DH will get him tools to put in his toolbox for his birthday.

Think out the box....Literally :)
Tent
sleeping bag
backpack
hiking boots
fishing pole
tackle box
fishing license
pocket knife
skateboard
helmet
2 man blow up boat
bb gun
slingshot
bow and arrow and target
sled
ski lessons or tickets if already knows how
baseball, bat, glove
basketball & hoop
football
tools
tool box
binoculars
national geographic subscription
Indoor rock climbing wall lessons or tickets to it.
Indoor skateboard park passes
Monster truck passes

Oh and since he is a Bear, he is eligible to get his Whittling Chip....a nice pocket knife from GP would be nice once he earns it :)

I know you northerners have long winters, but I bet he would enjoy looking forward to using something outdoors when summer rolls around.

My parents buy a few small gifts to open - about $50 and then give $100 which we use to buy stock in a local power company - My son made over $1000 off his stock this year. We roll the dividends over for more stock also. It is for a college fund or a down payment on a home 1 day.

Congratulations on your oldest! That is so great! Is Eagle next? or am I remembering wrong?
I just always thought the tools were like a rite of passage or so my husband tells me. When my oldest got married he asked for a router and a chainsaw. The next year his house made the home show for its pond and deck. He was only 24 with a degree but it was out of the office stuff to let him be creative.
I still believe it is very bonding with their dad and grandpa.
Let those little boys build Pinewood Derby cars!::cool1:
