Thanks for the updates. I know this is a difficult time for your family. I know losing several close people in my life (son, mom and sister), it is a tough time. Two of ours were surprises, (accident and heart attack), the other was a cancer. I still don't know which is the better of two evils. To be able to say good-bye is a good thing, but to watch the quality of life go down each day, is also not easy. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

I had this scenario with my Dad and it is truly the hardest thing I have ever had to do. And you are quite correct - there is absolutely nothing that can prepare you.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. And no, nothing can prepare you for this, not even if you know in advance that it will happen. When you get there it's still the hardest, most painful place you can imagine. Sending you the most empathetic hug I can must over the Internet. Let those around you love you (as I know they do), while you give all your love to your mom (as I know you will), and know that you are doing the very best you can with the choices that are available to you. You will do the right thing, because your mother is a part of your heart.

My heart is breaking, both for you and for me. I have had someone taken from my family recently, and I will likely have to face it again. Let the knowledge that there are so many people here who have faced similar tragedies give you a bit of comfort, there is strength in sharing sorrow and grief. But it's still not fair.
