Hi all
Looking for some advice, I am in need of a new point and shoot for our upcoming WDW trip in January.
First I do understand the limitations of a point and shoot and small sensor compared to a DSLR type camera, I just know myself enough to know that I don’t enjoy schlepping a DSLR around for the day with extra lenses etc and or worrying about hurting a good camera during a Disney vacation.
So I have been looking at the Canon SX280hs and the Panasonic ZS20
Any experience with either of these cameras? I might go for the FZ200 great glass, fixed 2.8 decent movies but again starting to get bigger then I want to carry. 2 years ago I carried a small lumix that I could put into my pocket, was a bit limited on what I could take but still really enjoyed being able to drop it into my pants pocket or wrap it in a zip lock before going down splash.

Thanks

The best camera in the smallest package is generally considered the Sony RX100. It uses a sensor about 4x the size of a typical P&S.. The same size found in the Nikon 1 series.
It's the only zoom compact camera with image quality ratings that compete with dSLRs. And it is exceptional if you want something for low light. (It made me upgrade my dSLR, when I realized it was better in low light than my 5-year-old dSLR).

We have both a Panasonic lx5 and lx7 as back up to our d90 and are happy with the quality of both.

Bow area? We live in Madbury right between Durham and Dover

Hey there fellow NH Disser :wave2:

Pembroke.
I was just out your way this morning! Stop at Salmon Falls pottery on the way back from the beach!
I think I went through Madbury on the way back and on the way to Calefs.

My wife was the manager at Calefs 5-6 years ago

I have a drawer full of digital cameras, six in all. Of those, four are DSLR's and of course I have all the lenses. The one I use the most? My Canon G12 point and shoot.

The Canon G-series Powershot cameras are some of the best you can get. You'll pay a premium price for them, but they're worth every penny. The one feature I like most about them is their ability to shoot in RAW format. This gives much more flexibility when post-processing the images, but you may not want to go through that process.

We're headed to Walt Disney World next month and all I'm taking for photos is the G-12, two batteries (and charger) and about 20Gb of media cards. I figure it should be plenty for a week's trip.

Thanks everybody for your advice and ideas, I decided to buy the Panasonic FZ200, fixed 2.8, 24X zoom and good video. I have wanted that camera for a while but went back and forth about that much for a point and shoot camera and not going with a DSLR. Was not sure I wanted to do that but with all I have read and photo's and movies I have seen made with that camera I believe next year I will get a DSLR to meet other needs.

Thanks again
