for a 3 night trip with my parents. (NON PARK TRIP) Mom has chronic leukemia, (just diagnosed), and is just getting it under control with meds that she just started. Therefore, her "tolerance" for noisy, smoky places (i.e. Jellyrolls) isn't great. This trip is just myself and my parents. They have been wanting to see my "timeshare" for the last few years, but mom wasn't feeling great and we didn't know what it was til now.

We did take them to HH a few years back for their 50th (which they LOVED), and they have since expressed an interest in my DVC home(s). I planned this trip for a stay at AKV, because I think it's such a unique and special place to share with my parents. I also think there's enough to do right there. I figure one morning we'll have breakfast at Boma (yum), and one night dinner there, one night dinner at Jiko.

One afternoon/evening I'd like to take them over to the BW to do just a little walking (mom isn't great with that either, but not considered "disabled" - it's more an energy level thing) and maybe have dinner in Spoodles or Big River Grille or Flying Fish.

Okay.....now regardless of mom not being herself (and hopefully by then she will be), my parents are AWESOME people to go away with - they like to do as much as possible even if it wipes mom out  - she's such a riot that way. So.....if after dinner they are up for something, what is there to do? I think DTD is going to be too much walking at the end of a day for her. Are there any lounges that stand out? Can we go to California Grille's lounge and maybe out to the roof to see the fire works even if we don't dine there? I'm thinking of Cirque Du Soleil one night, but that leaves two after dinner nights open.

Any suggestions would be great. I can't begin to say how happy I am that my mother is responding to this medicine and I just want to do something alittle special now that she's "back"!

TIA

As far as I know, Cali Grille's fireworks viewing area is only if you happen to be there eating while the fireworks are taking place. I'm not sure if they have a lounge/bar, but if they do, you may want to check and see if that's an option. Have you thought about some of the "off" recreational ideas? You could get a boat and cruise the lakes in front of MK, Cirque is a great idea and it's a fantastic show. What offerings are available at AKV? I know community hall is pretty popular over at SSR and they have activities (nice, quiet ones) from morning til night. Jellyrolls is non-smoking, but it is noisy. Cruising the boardwalk is a great idea and there isn't a huge amount of walking required. Isn't there a cruise through the safari at AKV for resort guests? That may also be fun option!

In the evenings at AKL/V they have a talk by a CM about their homeland. I went to 2 of them, and even though they had the same homeland, the talks were different and interesting. It's in the room where there is public sunset savannah viewing.

You could take a trip over to the Poly in the evening and sit on the beach there and watch the Wishes fireworks!

It is on the left-side of the lobby, just past the registration desk. Each evening they also tell African Folk Tales around the fire just outside the back doors of the resort.

As you walk in the lodge from parking lot, go past the check in desks, which are on your left, after the desks there is a room on the left. There's even a ramp to get down. It's set up like a African safari lodge area, and there's public viewing either from the in room or on an outside porch (no seating outside). There are very comfortable seats, and the talk is there. For our first "cultural safari" there were only 4-6 people, for the second, it was standing room only.

I am sorry to hear about your mom - my wishes for her wellness!!!! How about sitting by the pool with awesome books and talks? These moments have been some of the best with my family.

How about "nice" dinners or lunches at other resorts? She may just want sun and relaxation? My mom loves Cirque de Soleil? She thinks its magical.

What a wonderful daughter you are - she must be a wonderful mother.
