I plan on leaving RI about 1:00 p.m. on Friday April 15th and drive approximately 6 hours, which should put us a little past NYC if we miss traffic.. It looks like Dover, DE would be a good stopping point..but I'm open to suggestions for both the city and hotel.

Then I would like to leave Dover and stop somewhere 12 hours away, which would put us into South Carolina/Georgia. Can someone tell me if Savanha or Hilton Head are very far off route 95? Again, open to suggestions for city/hotel.

Thanks

PS Our entire budget has been spent on the Orlando Hotel, so I'm looking for clean but cheap hotels

Others may have more suggestions but I think you may be overly optimistic in thinking that you would miss traffic in the NYC area. It appears that you are going to drive I-95 all the way. Is that your planned route. If so, traffic on a Friday night in the NYC area will be very slow. Hilton Head is far off I-95. Have you checked with AAA?

I-95 in CT is a nightmare most day let alone on a Friday. We avoid it at all costs and will take a route that is a few miles more but less stress and traffice to avoid it. To be on the safe side you should plan on it taking more than the time you have alotted since you never know what will happen.
