For the past several years we have rented DVC points and stayed in a 1 bedroom villa. It's been awesome and worked out great. However, I have my concerns about it for next year. Things at my company have been a bit slow, and if heaven forbid, I was to find myself without a job, I don't want to be stuck with a reservation that I can't get my money back on. The likelihood of that happening is slim, but I always like to think ahead. The washer/dryer and extra space has been an absolute God-send for us, so I'd hate to lose it. Since there are 5 of us, we couldn't book the 1 bedroom through Disney, but only through DVC owners by renting points.

So, which option would you choose.

I'm going to say OTHER. Rent a week through an owner at Wyndham Bonnet Creek and you can get a 2 bedroom suite with full kitchen and washer and dryer for around $100 a night.

I really want to have EMH, Magical Express and regular bus service to the parks.

My only concern with your plan A is that a BWI 1 br might not be available a couple months out for your travel dates. Otherwise I think that's a good plan. But if you do it, you might want to think about whether or not you're okay with staying at SSR or OKW, since they are usually the resorts that still have availability a month or two out.

Yeah, I definitely thought of that. If that was the case, I'd stick with the standard room at the Boardwalk. We go 5 in a room at Universal, so it's not a big deal. We're either almost always in the park or pool, with the exception of a nap in the afternoon (sometimes) and sleeping at night and getting ready in the morning.

I'd go with the room that I could cancel then take my chances for a 1br later. I read above where you said your family is okay to share the one room if you need to, so it sounds like a good plan for you. That way your room is booked and you can move forward with the rest of the planning without the thought of losing your hard earned money should you need to cancel :)

Sending pixie dust all goes well with the job and things turn around for the company. It can be horribly stressful when things get tight at work.

I agree with this. This is why I only book room-only reservations! Another option would be to rent the points and buy trip insurance - a good source is www.insuremytrip.com. I'm not sure how long you've been with your company, but you should read through whatever policy you are considering - most offer coverage if you lose your job and you've been with the company for at least a year, some only cover if you've been with the company for three years.
