Ok - my 180 day window is quickly approaching. Staying 9 nights, split stay between Beach Club & Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I want to try a new place and my choices are Rose & Crown and/or Les Chefs de France. I've seen some pics of the food at the Rose & Crown and the portions seem small to me. Maybe it's just me...:goodvibes

Those of you who are "meat and potato" people, did these places satisfy you?

My husband likes his steak...

Thanks

I've been to Rose and Crown several times and it has always been really good! The portion sizes are not huge, you're right there, but even my hubby who complained about it said he was content at the end of the meal. And he's definitely a meat and potatoes guy. I haven't eaten in France, so I can't compare.

Have Fun!

i think both are great! i was full from my meal at rose & crown, and i'm always happy with my meals at chefs de france!! i just put up a rose and crown review on the review board if you want to check it out!

if you can, i would try both!! i'm not sure i could pick between them!! enjoy!!

I had the steak at rose/crown, and i thought it was good! Nothing really wowed me about the place thou. But dont get me wrong, it was good. I esp liked the view. If you like meat/potatoes, you will like it there. They even have a fish/steak combo which looks great (for dinner only). Its their famous battered fish, accompanied by a piece of steak, and some potatoes!! Check out the menu on this site and allears. Actually in the dining reviews section im sure you will find tons of pics as well.

i absolutely love R&C, it's how we start our trips every time. i've never left hungry, and sometimes there's food left on my plate. my family is the biggest meat and potato family, with some of us picky eaters, and this is our favorite restaurant.

I've only had the fish and chips at R&C - and when we got the plate, I scoffed a bit at there only being 2 pieces of fish -- but I could barely finish.

The cheese biscuits are AMAZING. Think Red Lobster, but so much better. (IMO. Sorry if this offends anyone!)

Our waitress was great, and I had their dragon drink (welsh dragon? Idk. Green one, there's a pic in the Disney Food Pics thread).

We went there in February had a ADR for Chef de France and went to see the menu and were not impressed. I don't remember exactly what their entrees were, but it was something along the lines of either a ham and cheese sandwich or mac and cheese. Of course they made it sound fancier that that. So we decided to cancel the ressie and we walked into Rose and Crown and asked if they had any tables. We waited for like 15 minutes and were seated inside. I got the fish and chips which were amazing! I walked away feeling full! DH got the steak, which he said was one of the best steaks he's had in awhile. He walked away feeling full too! The deserts were only so-so, but the entrees were great.

Thanks for the replies. I think I talked the husband into trying both...since we're staying at Beach Club. How nice is it to walk in the back door of Epcot???

I have 1 night left to choose...my choices are:

GFC
Olivias
Captains Grille
mama melrose

I wish there were not so many choices...

Good idea on choosing both!

We last did R&C in March and always enjoy it. The English pub atmosphere is a nice change of pace in FL and DH says he hasn't had fish & chips that good in a long time. My meaty Guinness pie was tasty, too.

Chefs is nice for a long leisurely dinner IMO. We like the 3-course option. My beef entree was quite tasty as was everything else. The sorbet trio dessert was phenomenal and I usually can take sorbet or leave it.

Then:
GFC would be my choice. Usually good consistent food. Then stay, walk the grounds and watch MK fireworks from some nice viewing spots. ::yes::

we really love R&C and we're all meat eaters.

Dh gave the bangers and mash a try this visit and myself and the 2 kids tried a bite and all I can say is OH.MY.GOSH - it was delicious! The sausage was a pork/apple with this delicious gravy. It was just so amazing.

Pre teen Son had the adult fish and chips - finished every bite but it was still a good sized portion

near adult daughter had Sunday Roast

I had chicken - which I don't see on the menu here or allears; http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningdetail.cfm?restaurant.ID=128 It was not the chicken on the sweet potato pilow thing. It was a roasted chicken breast with a leek dressing and stuffing. It was fabulous. And I had a bowl of potato leek soup.

I can't speak to Chefs de France, but we just got back from a week at Disney and ate at Rose and Crown one night. It was wonderful. I had the fish and chips, and the portion was not huge but satisfying, but dh had the steak and he said it was terrific. (And that was w/out the gravy as he is gluten intolerant.) We were seated on the patio and had an amazing view of Illuminations.

We are going to eat there again on our next trip. :)

walking in the back of epcot is amazing! it's not as far as most people think, and there are less people pushing you around (in my experience). And i say try mama melrose if you're family likes italian, it was pretty good IMO.

We have done Chefs for lunch and Rose & Crown for both dinner and lunch.
DH only went to Chefs the 1st time becos he knew I wanted to try it:)
When we went back to WDW the next year it was one of his 4 musts ADRs :thumbsup2(the others being CP for breakfast, Mama Melrose and Rose & Crown)
