OK, so after years of owning DVC and only staying in the Studios, we finally had our first 1-Bedroom visit---and that is it--we are NEVER going back to Studios, lol!!! With that said, we only have (170) points on our BWV contract, which is about (40) short of what we will need for our number of nights we visit each year. Couple that with the fact I had to borrow (17) points for this visit, and now we are running behind.

We have our AP's already bought for this/next year, so technically I have some 'vacation' money set aside, so I need your opinions on the following:

A. Just book our next years trip (which will need done in 2-weeks) by borrowing 2020 points, and hope we can get a 50-point contract on resale market in the meantime.

B. Use the money we have set aside for next years trip to completely rent points for this trip (I think it is around $3k), therefore allowing us to 'bank' the (153) points coming in 2019 to get us back on-track.

C. Buy from Disney (I know this is not always advisable), and hope we get a 'loaded' contract, to make up from the borrowing last year. I have already talked with my Guide, and he put us on a waitlist. If this could be a loaded contract, then I don't mind paying the $171/point--especially after seeing what BWV is on the resale market.

D. Open for suggestions!!!

Is your item 'B.' above intended to 'rent the reservation' or to rent/transfer points to your account?

I intended to rent the entire reservation--but can you rent just the amount of points I'll need instead??? I've owned for awhile, but never had to do much borrowing/renting since we always had enough to cover a Studio. But those 1-Beds are unbelievable, and I'm not going back to Studios, lol.

C. Buy from Disney. The current resale prices for a 50-point BWV contract are outrageously high. Once you factor in closing costs, the fact that the contract will probably be stripped and you will need to pay dues for the 2018 points (if there are any), the price difference between resale and direct is not that great. Plus, you would get the 2018 UY points but only pay prorated 2018 dues with a direct purchase. And those points would be in your account as soon as a contract becomes available and you say yes to it.

That is what I was thinking--now just waiting until a contract becomes available. On another note, can you just rent points (for transfer) from one of the listings on this forum? Meaning, I need like 70 points to finish our reservation in a couple weeks, so I can just rent this amount of points (until I buy another contract)??

Option C: Buy from Disney. While the price per point is higher, the closing costs are going to be significantly lower. I think you'll probably end up spending close to the same amount, but it should be quicker buying direct than waiting for that 50 point contract to appear in the resale market.

For your upcoming reservation, you might be able to find someone offering a transfer of the points needed to do the reservation. If you can't, then borrow some points (expecting to be able to bank current year points from your planned-purchase contract. Expect to have to ask DVC Member Services to re-allocate your points for the reservation after your planned purchase occurs, in order to be able to bank the maximum number of points into the next year.)

You would have to find a BWV owner who can do a transfer (you are only permitted one transfer, in or out, per year). They would also have to be willing to transfer only 70 points or so. But yes, you can do it. You would not be renting. The points would get transferred into your account and you can use them to make reservations. The drawback would be that the points are not visible in your account online, so you would need to call MS to use them.

I know what you mean! We have our last family vacation in a studio over New Years. We recently added on some more points (through Disney). However, there are no rooms available when we are going in December, so a studio it is!

We now have our June trip booked in a 2-bdrm for the 4 of us! The kids will each get their own queen sized bed.

Nice!

I would check into what DVC is charging for closings on a direct purchase, I believe they just instituted a new fee, and with this new fee the closing costs are getting closer to resale price closings.

It sounds like 1BR's are it for you so finding a contract that will fulfill the requirement for your normal stay probably makes it the easiest. With that said though, your idea of renting the reservation for this coming year and banking your points would get you set up for 3 plus years or if you got a point transfer of something a little larger - such as 200 points you could be set up for as much as 5 years before you'd be down again. Transfer or rent 200-210 again at that time to be set for several more years.

You can find someone to rent the entire stay from this year. You can find someone to rent part of the time and book part of the time with your own points. Or you can find someone to transfer in whatever amount of points you both are agreeable to.

Think I got it figured out (let me know what you all think)............Renting (100) points to finish our reservation for next year--this way I don't have to rent the 'entire' reservation, and it saves me about $1500. In the meantime, I will be looking for a 50-PT contract through either Disney or Resale.

I CANNOT believe what BWV asking rate is now!! I bought this about 3-4 years ago for $80-ish a point, and now they are well up in the $130-$150 PT range!!!
