We are still trying to decide what excursions to take in Grand Cayman. We'd like to do Stingray City (I've done it, but hubby hasn't). I don't want to spend a long excursion there. Has anyone done the Rum Point Beach excursion with Stingray City snorkeling, offered by Disney? I've spent 2 week a long time ago near Rum point and I'd love to go back and see how it's changed. I also know that there is great snorkeling off the beach near there and we have our own gear, so that could be something to do. When they say a variety of beverages is included in your day, does that include alcoholic drinks like beer and such? Is Rum point worth it for the day?

I'm also considering renting a car or Scooters and touring on our own, but I'd like to get to Stingray Sandbar. Does anyone know of a fairly short, early tour? I'm also interested in whatever company does the dvd's & videos of the SC tours, can't remember which one it was and am hoping someone can help!

Any suggestions? THanks!

We are on the Feb 14th cruise and have booked a stingray tour through Captain Marvins. We are doing a short trip, 2 hours, because there are many other things we want to do in port. Capainmarvins.com is a great place to start. We booked an 11:00 am tour so we can be back by 1:00 and contine with our day. Good luck

Remember that Rum Point is quite a distance (relatively speaking) from the port. I think its worth going to but perhaps part of an excursion. The drinks are good but VERY expensive $10+ U.S. for a simple rum punch or a mudslide. I'm not sure about snorkeling from Run Point unless getting on a boat is part of the excursion. If so, then the coral areas near Rum Point are fabulous. If not, you can always snorkel around the long dock there. We saw several people doing that when we were there. The public beach was ok. If you wanted to spend more time there, you might want to consider taking a cab. There is a nice restaurant at Rum Point called Kaibo Yaght Club. Also, if you DO decide to rent a car or scooters and travel to Rum Point - there is a great local restaurant on the way to Rum Point (after you make the big left turn at the "T" heading toward Rum Point) called "Over the Edge Cafe". Definitely a spot for locals and fairly reasonably priced. Try the fried lobster (which is really a stir-fried lobster) which is served with native vegetables, rice, johnny cakes on the side, and a side of plantains baked in brown sugar - YUM! It has great views of the ocean as well. We spent one day at Rum Point and really enjoyed it. Also, if you are using your own transportation, you will be driving right by the botanical museum. If you have an hour, go on in. There are bunches of the native blue iguanas there (some were upwards of 4 feet) and some beautiful flowers and interesting plants. Finally, if you are into history and you are traveling on your own to Rum Point, you will also pass Pedro St. James Castle. You can go through this in an hour as well. Don't miss their multi-media show - VERY GOOD. This stop is definitely for history buffs but I liked it.
Have fun!
