Hi, I need you opinions. We are on the free dining plan 8/26-9/2. 2 adults, 2 daughters 10 & 7. So far I have ADR's:

Sci Fi- I don't here good things about it. Is there somewhere else you suggest in MGM (none of them sound great) or a resort restraunt that is easy to get to?

Kona Cafe (Dinner)
Boma (Dinner)
San Angel (Dinner- couldn't get Le Cellier)
Whispering Canyon (any comments?)
Garden Grill
Cape May Clam Bake

Would you change any of these?
Am I missing anything that is great?
I feel like I have too many buffets!

Thanks,
Chris

We took our two granddaughters last Christmas and they loved Whispering Canyons. They are 10 and 6 and the CM's there were great. Our server made them get up and clean the table off if they wanted dessert. I've never seen them move so fast! Also, make sure you ask for ketchup. We ended up with 21 bottles of ketchup on our table. You should have seen the look on the kids faces. It was a very fun night for all of us. Your kids would probably enjoy the Sci-Fi. We have been there before and it is a very neat restaurant and the food was okay. If you want some good food, take the boat to the Boardwalk and go to Spoodles. We had one of our best dinners there. Have a great time wherever you end up!

You go to Sci Fi (or 50's Prime Time) for the atmosphere, which is great; not the food, which is ordinary.

If you are looking primarily for food Mama Melrose's at the Studios is serviceable. Brown Derby is the best at the park but you pay for it. Otherwise I would suggest back to the Poly for Ohana. The Spoodles suggestion is also a good one.

Your other picks all sound pretty good.

Whispering Canyon is a blast. This is the first time in 4 years that we don't have an ADR there. (Doing some different things). DW and I have done Sci-Fi and this year we're taking the kids. I too think they will enjoy that - also a mainstay is 50's Prime-Time at MGM. Pretty entertaining for the kids (little and not so little :)) I would certainly give that a shot. You can't wrong with the meatloaf or fried chicken.

:wizard: Good Luck and Much pixie dust to all,
Andy

P.S. - 18 days and counting!!!

I suggest the 50's prime time, but this is all about atmosphere as well. You must decided if the atmosphere is enough of a trade off for theaverage food .

Sci Fi really does get bad reviews here but we've eaten there on 2 different trips and it was good both times! On the other hand, at Boma, we couldn't find much of anything to eat. We all stuck to the children's buffet (chicken fingers) and filled up on dessert. We won't go back there! You don't say if this is your kids' first trip or not- if so I would try at least one character meal.

We have tried Sci-Fi, Prime Time, and Hollywood and Vine and enjoyed them all. We had an ADR for H&V for the first dinner seating and all of the food was good and fresh. We're trying Mama Melrose this time because it's something new, but the others are more fun!

My family loved the Whispering Canyon and the 50's Prime time. The food was decent in both places but the atmosphere was so much fun.

I would recommend the Brown Derby - my kids were 14 and 7 the first time we took them there and they are both very picky eaters - but yes it is pricey

2nd choice would be Hollywood and Vine

For atmosphere over food quality SCI-Fi drive in

We ate at Mama Melroses Mar 07 for dinner and were disapointed neither of my Kids still very picky now 20 and 14 didn't like any of the choices my son who lives for pizza hated theirs.
