Need Opinion On ipod Touch for Christmas

I don't think that an 8 year old would use much of the functionality of an ipod touch anyways.

She plays mine and her sister's all the time.

Nicole.. Want to adopt a 31 year old with a realy cute infant.. I want a 32G Itouch for christmas!!!

Done! I would actually love one myself. I got a new house instead. I'll take the house, I believe :)

I've got an 8g I-Touch (it's great) but with apps, photos, music, etc. it didn't take me any time at all to fill it up. I wish I had more space.

That's what I'm afraid of. I've filled my 8 in no time flat. For her it's not going to be the music, she really doesn't have that much. It's going to be the apps and movies.

Wow!
I didn't realize eight-year olds got such extravagent electronics for Christmas.

I am SO happy with my 5 GB pretty green iPod Nano I got for my early birthday present.
I love it!

When I see what other people spend on their kids for Christmas, I don't feel so badly. I would much rather get her one bigger gift with a few smaller ones, than a bunch of toys that she won't hardly play with. She has an older sister. Madi played with toys much longer than Em. Em just wants to be like her big sister.

Why not go with a Nano, Nicole? Just my opinion, but DD (12) has a shuffle and does not fill it up with her music. I realize she has less than many children her age, but even DH has a Nano for his music.

Not that I would not love for you to buy a Touch (more profit for the home team) but it may be overkill at 8. If you are set on the Touch, I would say 8GB if she is the only user.

She has a Nano. It was a hand me down from her sister. But, she plays our Touches all the time.

Dont know if this helps or not....but I have the 16g iPhone which I use all the time and there is still space available.

You do not have to carry all of your movies, music, tv shows and apps at the same time.

I keep a couple of movies, a handful of playlists and 25 apps on mine. When I sync, I just change out what I'm not using.

She might not be able to carry all of her stuff, but you might find that this is a way for he to manage things on her own.

Kevin, I don't think that they have the 16 anymore. That is what Madi has, and that would be great. I want the newest version, though, and it doesn't offer 16.

I was just explaining that I have 16g and have used roughly 8g and I use mine for everything.

I would say if she wants to use it for videos I would say 32g. If she is interested in music and apps I think the 8g is more than enough.

Does she have her own computer? If she can easy sync and transfer videos without have to fight over a computer I would think you could get away with the 8g.

Hmm, with some of the responses, do you really think I'd admit to my 8 year old having her own computer??? I am in charge of syncing all of the ipods in this house. We keep them all on my main computer.

:) My 5 year old has a computer. It's a hand me down, but he has one.

My now 7YO grandson has had his own computer for 2 years now. It keeps him away from the grown-up's computer.

Go for it, I admit that mine do. I just would not get my 8 year old a Touch...not a judgement, I just think a Nano is a better choice for lots of reasons...size and replacement cost being the two major ones. You want to do a Touch, go for a Touch. I still say the 8GB is a good size. Even if she wants a movie or TV show on it, they are very easy to add and take off when you are done. You don't have to keep your entire library on your iPod.

DD won her shuffle in the summer reading program at the library, and DS borrows his Dad's shuffle when we go on trips. They both synch on my computer, despite having their own iMacs. This is how we keep watch over their libraries and download choices. They are still young enough that we feel that is necessary.

So actually Nicole, I think that question is if she will be using it more for video/tv shows which the concensus is take up the most space, are you prepared as the syncing person in the house to do this for as needed? or would become an issue? If it works then I think the 8G.

I don't have a touch (yet), but one of the reasons I'm looking to get one is the games. Apple talks a lot about the touch and the iphone being a nice gaming platform. DW is pregnant (yay!) and I've been sitting in the doctor's office a LOT lately. I see a lot of adults pull iPod touches out and mess with a game or an app or two. I imagine an 8-year-old might like the touch for gaming as much as music and video.

We bought 30 gig ipods about three years ago. We've no where near filled them up, but having the larger capacity was nice. I'd spend the extra $$ because I'll bet you it will last quite a while.

I just bought my son an 8gb Touch for 149--google Apple refurbs. It came with a 1 year warranty. HTH

I'd go with the 8GB. It seems that not many people realize that they can add/remove content easily via iTunes (or they can't be bothered).

Thanks. I do realize it, and yeah, I think for the most part, I don't want to bother. :) Are the 8 GB and the 32 GB EXACTLY the same except for the storage?

Which one should I buy for Emilie?

8GB Touch for $199
32GB Touch for $299

It depends, if you think she might add a lot of video to her ipod touch, then I would go with a 32GB.

I have a 32GB ipod touch and have filled it up! (mainly a lot of disney shows/parades, and a few movies and travel channel episodes). It was recently cleared by mistake, so im going to limit myself when putting videos on it this time, so that i will have room for other stuff, or I might just get a 64GB!

If she is not going to put many videos on it then go with an 8GB.

Oh yes! i have an ipod touch and the games are FANTASTIC!. i absolutely love it. i have a lot of great "FREE" games on my ipod touch and i haven't paid for one single app on there, simply because there are too many free(GOOD) apps in the app. store. :yay:

Im 16 and I cant even fill a 8GB itouch xD i doubt an 8yr old could :p

I say you go with the 8GB

Actually, they are not. The 32 and 64 gig are the newest generation with faster processors. The 8 gig is the previous generation. If you take a look at the reviews on Amazon for the 32 gig, I think you'll see it explained there a lot better than I can.

But if you're on the fence about which one to get, I'd go with the cheaper one. In a year or two, there will be some cool new iPod that she'll want and the one you're about to purchase will be more obsolete than the technology used to do Epcot's Lights of Winter.
