Which one should I buy for Emilie?

8GB Touch for $199
32GB Touch for $299

I think it depends on how much music or other stuff she has. 8 gig is a lot of space so I doubt she would fill it up with just music. But if she wants to view a lot of pictures or video then the 16 gig is probably the better bet.:teacher:

Give her yours, and buy yourself the big one. :)

I said that to begin with, but James said that wouldn't be nice :(

With apps and movies, 8 is not quite big enough. But, um, she's 8. So, she could make due. However, if I'm going to spend the money, 32 is a better deal. But, she's 8 and 8 should be enough. Do you see me talking myself in circles???

I have the 16GB iphone. I filled up 8GB with 2 feature length movies, 6 hour tv shows, 50 songs or so (no videos), 40 or so apps, and 10 books (for kindle and stanza). You can always take anything off and make room for something else. It will still be available on your computer. The video by far takes up the most space. But that give you an idea of what you can fit into 8GB. If you didn't do video at all or very little, 8GB would fit almost any collection. I just happen to like taking movies and tv shows on the plane with me.

I don't know why an eight year old would need the big one. I think you are being more than generous with the 8 GB.

kinda depends how long she'll have this before upgrading to something else that hasn't even come out yet....who knows what apple has up their sleeves..

on the other hand, i have a 16 and while it holds tons of music, even the 16 barely holds any video...

so i guess my answer is... i don't know..

the 32 seems a bit extravagant for an 8 year old....on the other hand, is the 8GB worth that much when it doesn't do well for video?

decisions, decisions........

I'd recommend the 8GB. That should be more than enough for now...

As mentioned above, if they are on your main hard drive you can just move movies and videos around at will.

And, by the time Emilie is 10, there will be a whole new bigger and better generation of iPod Touch out there (i-everythings, no doubt ;) ) that will probably hold twice as much for less money.

I don't think that an 8 year old would use much of the functionality of an ipod touch anyways.

Nicole.. Want to adopt a 31 year old with a realy cute infant.. I want a 32G Itouch for christmas!!!

I've got an 8g I-Touch (it's great) but with apps, photos, music, etc. it didn't take me any time at all to fill it up. I wish I had more space.

DS (13) has the 8 and he has it LOADED with music and video. He isn't even close to capacity on it.

Wow!
I didn't realize eight-year olds got such extravagent electronics for Christmas.

I am SO happy with my 5 GB pretty green iPod Nano I got for my early birthday present.
I love it!

Why not go with a Nano, Nicole? Just my opinion, but DD (12) has a shuffle and does not fill it up with her music. I realize she has less than many children her age, but even DH has a Nano for his music.

Not that I would not love for you to buy a Touch (more profit for the home team) but it may be overkill at 8. If you are set on the Touch, I would say 8GB if she is the only user.

The one reason I would want a Touch - that Toy Story Mania app people say is so cool. Not a good enough reason!

I don't have a knowledgeable response for you Nicole - DD12 wants a touch for Christmas and she knows that this will be the present. I was only thinking of the 8G but I am curious to hear what others think. I am thinking she wants the touch for music - she has a shuffle and does listen to a lot of music - and some of the apps. I did not think about video.

I have the 8gb, and have about 200+ songs on it right now, along with 5 tv shows, 50+ apps, 20 audio books, and still have space left...

The tv shows take up the most space, and games seem to suck the most battery life

While I have more than 90 apps, etc...i don't usually keep them all on, and you can re-sync it and change things all the time - no big deal to bump something off if i want to add more -- but haven't really needed to

Dont know if this helps or not....but I have the 16g iPhone which I use all the time and there is still space available.

You do not have to carry all of your movies, music, tv shows and apps at the same time.

I keep a couple of movies, a handful of playlists and 25 apps on mine. When I sync, I just change out what I'm not using.

She might not be able to carry all of her stuff, but you might find that this is a way for he to manage things on her own.
