DH and myself have never had a vacation in over 21 years. So we decided to go somewhere this year for Christmas with our two DS (17 and 15). A place that we can all enjoy. Our families were not happy with the fact that we are not going to be around on Christmas day and since we have announced our plans to our families we have had every financial curve ball thrown at us. Call it Murphy's Law or bad karma we need it to go away. We are trying our best but we are in serious need of some prayers and pixie dust to help us get there. :sad2::sad1::sad2::sad1:

Ahh good wishes for your trip. Families can be such pains! I've dealt with the same problem since we moved away from everyone else in the family. WE finally stayed home last year for the first time since it was my DD's last at home before college and she asked to have Christmas and her birthday (same week) at home for once before she left. Boy the grumbling and griping but did any of them offer to come to us for once? Nope. Your Older DS is probably a senior so go and enjoy this Christmas cause you never know when they go off to school how much you will have them after that.

Have a great trip and don't worry about the others they will get over it.

Well not sure what's been going on but I've been having particularly good karma recently so I just sent a bunch your way. :goodvibes Your vacation WILL happen, enjoy it!

Thanks to everyone :worship::worship: for the reassuring words and pixiedust: that everything will be ok. We have wanted to do this for so long and it seems like no one else wants us to ever have a holiday to relax and enjoy life just a bit...Next time I will not say anything until the day before we leave.....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

:thumbsup2 Sounds like a plan. Try not to listen to the familiy members who can't be supportive. Don't even talk to them about your plans--why even open yourself up for commentary? You don't owe them anything at the holidays, after all.

I hope ya'll have a wonderful vacation, wherever you go. :goodvibes

I do hope your vacation works out, but yet I understand the family thing too.

DH's Dad and Stepmom are always gone at Christmas, as their winter home is in Florida so it's been many years since we spent Christmas with his Dad and it would not be a problem for us to plan a Christmas vacation away from them. But my Mom is a different story. I'm an only child, so she always spends Christmas with us. There is no way I would want to plan a Christmas vacation for us and leave her home alone. I know she wouldn't handle it well. And I'm not sure I'm ready to be away from our kids/grandkids at Christmas either. Maybe in a few years...when we retire. :)

Sending lots of prayers and pixie dust . I'm very big on holiday traditions also, however the day our 4 children married I accepted there were 4 other sets of parents with families to consider, also that 2 kids live in state, 2 out of state. Thankfully it's worked out very well for us, however all families need to give and take ~ realize that nothing is carved in stone. Lots of things come into play, inlcuding making some of your own traditions. :)

Remember, you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time. No one can make you feel guilty unless you let them ~ you really need this holiday vacation after 21 yrs, so hopefully you'll figure out a way to make it work financially. GO and have a wonderful time making special memories w/your DH/DS's and don't look back!!!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes
