Need New Washer...Suggestions?

I can't say enough good things about my Samsung. I've had it 3 years, with zero problems. My mom actually just bought one too after she went through her 2nd Whirlpool in less than 5 years.

Same here. 3 years. No issues. It's crazy how much I love my washer, lol. It also had the best overall reviews in terms of maintenance, noise, and function. I got the dryer that went with it too. Love them both.

I leave the door completely open 100% of the time when not in use on my LG, and in humid almost free air of Colorado, I still swear the thing smells. Haven't seen mold, but the junk in the gaskets - yuck.

Front loaders were all the rage, now it seems many who have one want to go back to the traditional top loader when they buy next.

Uh, you're supposed to periodically wipe the gaskets to get rid of the "junk".

I have a brand new Samsung front load washer/dryer set stacked for my new bathroom. I love them.

This is my second front load washer (first one is still doing great in the basement) but when we moved our laundry upstairs, we got a new set.

I have a Speed Queen. Best washer ever: top loader. Agitator. Runs pure hot water for hot cycles. Technically energy efficient but you can override the water level if you want. Soaks. No lockout.Comes with 2 or 3 yrs parts AND labor. It's basically an industrial washer without a quarter slot :) about $700 I believe.

I have a slow Queen. Wife says she can't move that fast anymore. :duck:

It's important to read the manual and follow the instructions with any new appliance. I love my frontloading HE washer, too. I had a toploader HE previously with which I learned to use liquid detergent, and much less than one would expect. Too much leads to the oversudsing and buildup on the outside of the drum which can develop an odor. We also wipe the gaskets and leave the door open after use. There's a hose to be drained once a week as well. We have never used any special cleaning methods other than that.

The clothes are spun so well that they take much less drying time. I bought a Kenmore Elite pair on pedestals after researching what to choose on Consumer Reports online and reading every online review I could find. I found out who actually manufactured the appliances, as so many make appliances for sale through Sears under the Kenmore name. I did the same with the refrigerator and freezer I bought from Sears.

ITA, I have seen that too

I hate my front loader, although for different reasons - it constantly catches clothes in the gasket and ruins them. I can not tell you how many things it has destroyed. The model is not available anymore, but FYI it was a Kenmore

I can not wait to go back to a top loader. I don't have problems with the HE getting clothes clean, so maybe an HE top loader

Thanks for the further suggestions. I definitely want one large enough to wash my down comforter.

In 2009 I got the top of the line lg steam washer and dryer. I wash my down comforter in it several times a year. I also have started washing cashmere in it and it does a terrific job. Never has any issues. It's always been in a second floor laundry room (moved twice) with no vibration problems. I don't use the steam much but I like having the option since my ds has eczema.

Just replaced my washer. After having a high efficiency washer (that I loathed), I went with a very basic, old school style, Roper from Lowes. Now I can set the load level and my clothes come out complete wet (unlike my despised HE). It gets the job done! Got it for $300!!!

I second the Roper! A good no frills machine that is made by Whirlpool. It is the frills that break most of the time on these machines. The most important thing for me is clean, sweet smelling clothes. I find fault with these low water HE front loaders as I do not think they get the job done. If the Roper doesn't fit your needs, a Kenmore non HE top loader without buttons or electronics is my second choice. You can get a higher capacity with the Kenmore. I have also heard great things about Speed Queen, however, the price is expensive.

We did a ton of research before we bought ours last year. We looked at everything we could regarding customer reviews; professional reviews; service issues etc. We were replacing an old top loader that we had for well over 10 years. It still worked so we weren't in a hurry and took our time making up our minds. We decided on Samsung Front Loading washer and dryers (got the red ones). We LOVE them. It is night and day from the old set. They are quiet and efficient. We also love that the washer spin cycle gets a lot of the water out of the clothes, so if you hang dry, they dry very quickly and if you use the dryer you can do a much shorter cycle. A front loader shouldn't smell bad or give you issues as long as you leave the door cracked open when you aren't using it. We usually leave ours wide open for a while after running a wash and so far, no issues at all. I will say that you probably will want to by the platforms to, so figure that cost in. That keeps you from having to bend over so much to load and unload and we like the extra storage drawers to keep hangers in etc. Sometimes you can get them to throw the platforms in as part of the deal- depending on the current prices and sales.

After an appliance friend recommended Fisher Paykel, we bought one on Craigslist. It is a top loader with an agitator and I think still HE. Works just great!

When my washer went out....after TWO years, I said that's IT! I called a washer repairman and asked him what was the best, most reliable brand.

Guess what he said...SPEED QUEEN!

It's made in America (!!), all kinds of solid steel parts, has the best warranty in the business, they make commecial washers and this one is just as reliable, it's basic and easy to use and it's amazing.

I have read review after review of people who swear by them. I got mine about 18 months ago and I love it! It washes fast and clothes get clean. No issues at all. You may have to go to their site to find a dealer but work with their prices. I got the top end model, top loader, and they matched the cheapest price I could find.
