Washing machine bit the dust, time for a new one. Any brand/model suggestions?

TIA

Bought an LG in August after a bit of research. So far, so good.

Just replaced my washer. After having a high efficiency washer (that I loathed), I went with a very basic, old school style, Roper from Lowes. Now I can set the load level and my clothes come out complete wet (unlike my despised HE). It gets the job done! Got it for $300!!!

Frontload HE washers do not smell and they do not get moldy with proper care. All you have to do is leave the door slightly ajar...just barely cracked. That's all.

I love my LG WM3875HWCA model. I've had it for about 3 years maybe and looooove it to death!

LGs and Samsungs are great and have the fewest repairs.

I leave the door completely open 100% of the time when not in use on my LG, and in humid almost free air of Colorado, I still swear the thing smells. Haven't seen mold, but the junk in the gaskets - yuck.

Front loaders were all the rage, now it seems many who have one want to go back to the traditional top loader when they buy next.

What's wrong with it? Older washing machines are pretty easy and cheap to repair. Mine was leaking water, and set me back $60 for a new pump. Then it stopped spinning, and that was $28 for a bearing and pulley. I had to pay labor to replace the transmission, but the part was covered under a 10-year warranty; glad I kept the paperwork.

I am happy the other poster has luck with his or her LG. maybe we were just unlucky. door open everyday all day. Our model had this weird hose in the front on the bottom. In the book it said you had to drain it after each use My Lg had its mother board changed two times they would not come out again after that repair. We replaced it with a $300 Ge model which is still going. Ps even with door open you can get mold repairman said that is why they sell those tablets.

We had one like that, that DH had for 20+ years. They stopped making parts for it :(

This last one we got for free about 6-8 years ago, put a clutch assembly in it 1.5 years ago. Now, looks like it needs another new clutch assembly and/or mainboard, and an RF choke.

Trouble is the fuse blew too fast to accurately and completely diagnose the additional parts needed. The RF choke alone is $65+, the fuse is integrated into it (stupid design). The mainboard is $250.00+ and the clutch assembly is $125.00+. Those are servicer prices, retail prices would be higher.

The unit is 10+ years. Given the ratios of cost of parts to a new unit, DH's limited schedule, rusty diagnostic abilities and extreme disinterest in repairing the unit, it's time. Would love to have another freebee fall in our laps, but may just bite the bullet on this one... :sad2:

We have Samsung Front Loader set and LOVE It!! Get smy clothes so much cleaner than my old "old school" one. Next month will be 3 years and have never had any issues. I do clean it out and wash it on the sanitize setting with vinegar once in a while. Along with leaving the door open to dry. The only time it had a "funky' smell was when we moved from Cali to Texas and it was packaged up in storage and moving trucks for 6 weeks. As soon as I did a sanitize cycle with vinegar it was back to normal. MY 5 and 8 year olds are able to help me with laundry very easily with this set:)

This past summer my washer quit on me. It was a 1992 model, so over 20 years old. We got a Kenmore top loader HE washer. I was told that the new front loaders have a drum that is tilted to help with the smell problem.

I have a Speed Queen. Best washer ever: top loader. Agitator. Runs pure hot water for hot cycles. Technically energy efficient but you can override the water level if you want. Soaks. No lockout.Comes with 2 or 3 yrs parts AND labor. It's basically an industrial washer without a quarter slot :) about $700 I believe.

Whirlpool front loader. I love it!! No issues and it gets the grease off my husbands uniforms :)

Got an LG front loader in August....so far, so good. I know many complain about the odor/mold, etc. but I haven't had a problem My LG as a drum clean selection which I'm to do once a month. I also wipe my dry after each wash, the seals (rubber) and keep it open.

The only time I had any smell with the front loader was when someone closed the door instead of wiping off the inside and letting the machine dry out for a bit. I just ran a washer cleaning cycle and the smell was gone. This has only happened once in the 3 years I've had it.

I can't say enough good things about my Samsung. I've had it 3 years, with zero problems. My mom actually just bought one too after she went through her 2nd Whirlpool in less than 5 years.

We just recently got an LG front loader set and love it. I use the tub clean function with bleach once a month. Also, when I finished with laundry, I wipe down the door and the rubber gaskets, not just on top but in the "fold" area. Not a single problem with smells at all. It takes all of 30 seconds to do once a week.
