Need New Vacuum Cleaner

Hit me with all of your advice. We need a new vacuum cleaner. We have only 2 bedrooms with carpet and 1 large area rug in the living room. The rest of the house (except bathrooms) is wood. I need something that works great on both bare floors and carpet.

Since we really have so little carpet do you think something as pricey as a Dyson is worth it?

Get a Oreck. They are awesome. I don't know if you have very little carpet due to allergies, but we have found that the oreck works on both our hardwoods and our carpets and that because its not one that just dumps out - and it has bags - less allergens are exposed / released when we change the bag and also it has a HEPA filter i believe. i've been very happy with my oreck.

I love the lightweight-ness of my Oreck but I've had to replace the motor which was not cheap. Never had to do that with any other vacuum I've owned. I have a hoover as well that was recommended by Consumer Reports at the time. It works very well but is so heavy compared to the Oreck.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Dyson. It is the absolute best vacuum we have ever owned. We mainly have wood with area rugs. I still can't believe what that vacuum picks up!!!!!
