Need more $$ for trip.. I need yard sale advice

I am having a yard sale Sat and could use some advice. I have a lot of kids clothes for sale. What is the best way to display them? Most of them are girls infants through toddlers and I have some boys also. Hanging them on hangers is out of the question. Should I leave them in bins by size and let people go through them? or fold them and put them on blankets on the grass? I think my table space will be limited.

What is a good price to price them? Basic no name items I was going to price at .50 each.. But better items like jackets I would like to price a little higher.

I also have alot of old beanie babies. I cant believe how much theyhave gone down in price I am thinking about pricing them $3.00 each just to get rid of them.

I also want to keep them together by size to make it easier for the shopper.

I placed an ad in the paper and have bright signs to hand up.

I am going to WDW in 2 1/2 weeks and I still need more money AHHHH

I just had a huge moving sale, and here is what I did. All clothing was marked at .50 . I had very little table space as well. So, I did leave some in bins, but no one really looked through those. I would put them in sizes, (no they won't stay like that), but lay them on blankets. Hanging does work best, but it's not always easy to do that. I had my beanies the 1st day at $1 a piece and not one person looked at them, so I marked them all half off on the last day, and got rid of all of them. I was at the point where I did not want to have to move anything, so I just wanted to get rid of it. I still made almost $500 on that garage sale... Good luck!!! You can never have too much money for Disney.. LOL!!!

A Yard Sale is a great way to make extra money for Disney. In the spring I had one and made over $700!! The key is advertising and kids stuff!!!!! T

I would price the kids clothes from .50 to $3. If they are in bins they don't seem to sell as well. We put a full piece of plywood on two storage bins and pile the clothes on it. People want to be able to sort through and see everything. Yes, it does get disorganized and messy, but it works. You can straighten it up once or twice.

I have two yard sales a year and I have the same people come eveytime to buy all of my kids stuff. I ususally sell all of my kids stuff in the first two hours.

I just sold $950.00 at my garage sale. I would try tables if at all possible. When people see stuff on the ground they will over look it (I am the same way!)...I hung my stuff on a broomhandle held by two ladders, worked pretty good. Or Maybe borrow some tables.

Hang up your clothes, even if you are only asking 50 cents for it and it will sell! You can buy a cheap clothing rack for about $10 at a discount store and it is well worth it. Or use the broom and ladder idea for a free rack. It really does make a difference.

We hung our stuff from ladders too. The rest were on tables (or doors laying on top of sawhorses). Everything sorted by size with signs taped to the front of the table with the sizes on them. Many commented on how organized things were and we sold a lot ($800). Things didn't get too messed up - I think people tried to stay organized since we were organized. We also separated the girls and boys things since people don't like to waste time. Also, wear a fanny pack to keep your money - I've heard of people having their cash boxes stolen! Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for the advice. The sale went good and I ended up with $120.

The funny thing is I spend alot of time last night hanging everything and putting everything is order by size and I did not really sell any of my hanging items, only about 10 out of 50 lol.

I guess I was just getting people who didn't need the sizes I had. I have alot of infant girls clothes. I am going to do another sale this Friday at a friends house and hope to get different people with he different location.

I am also having my first yard sale and trying to get rid of alot of baby stuff. Anyone have any suggestions on how to price some of the bigger items??? Like car seats, swings, pack-plays, cribs??? Also, do you think people will buy kids toys??? i have a ton of them.. Any advise would be appreciated. I like the idea of the clothes on the brrom with the ladders, would have never thought of it. Yes toys sell, just clean them really well. Pt all the pieces in a plastic bag. The larger items like car seats I sold an infant seat for $20.00, 2 regular for $15 and $20 and a booster for $12.00. The swing I got $30.00 for and high chair $20.00, a vibrating boncey seat thing I sold for $15.00...baby stuff sells well here. I also sold 14 out of 15 beanies (new w/tags) for $4.00. Good luck.

We're planning on having a yard sale next month,but my children are older,so I won't have any of the "baby"items.I'll have lots of collectiables,like "kitty Kucumber"figurines,some Boyd's bears,Hummel plates,hand cross-stitched pictures,along with an assortment of other things.Any ideas on how to price these things? Also,books-is $.50 too much to ask?I have spider plants,good size-do they sell? Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

Before I had my garage sale, I went to our local kids resale shop to see what they were asking for their various baby items, toys, and clothes. I know they pay you 1/2 what they will sell it for. I then marked my stuff between what they would have paid me and what they would have charged. I had a lot of name brand clothes and marked them according-they sold like hotcakes! Most of my baby items sold-except my highchairs. I tried selling some of my unwanted Longaberger baskets, but no takers. I'm going to try ebay. We made a whopping $1500 at that garage sale which paid for our 4 day DCL. I included in my ad that I had baby items. Also, make lots of signs and put them at all the major intersections by your house with additional signs at each turn so they can get there. I recently brought stuff to a friends garage sale-she had a sign at the entrance to her subdivision, but no additional signs and you have to make several turns to get to her house. Needless to say she had few people show up. Make sure your signs are big, simple to read (arrows, address, sale hours-but no fine print people can't see) and make the letters and arrows in BIG BLACK BOLD LETTERS! I don't know how many times I've been out on the street and seen garage sale signs that have been written with a fine point marker-how do they expect you to read it if your driving down the street! Use cardboard to reinforce the sign-no one can read a sign that's curled up.

I have had several rummage sales at diffferent locations and each time have used long banquet-style table from the local school district. I have just called them up and asked politely and was made quite welcome to them. Usually, you have to fill out some sort of form taking responsibility for any damages incurred and then are free to load them up and take off. If you need help with this, the school janitor usually doesn't mind giving you a hand. Once I had them to the sale location, I dressed them up a bit with tablecloths or, in a pinch, a bedsheet. It's all worked out really well each time.

Good luck at bingo, and I hope you do well at the next yard sale! I also live in Northern NJ, and I don't think we do as well at garage/yard sales as people in other parts of the country do, for whatever reason. Then again, I don't have any childrens clothing anymore too!

I have never had a yard sale, but I go to a lot of them .

I saw something last week that I really liked. The woman priced her clothes with masking tape. The "price tag" included the price, size and brand name. I could tell at a glance if a piece of clothing was my daughter's size or not. Another advantage of the masking tape is that it stayed put on the clothes. Often the little round stickers come right off.

Books usually go for 25 cents around here. Some people charge 50 cents or a $1, but not many. Hardcovers go between $1 and $3 depending on condition. Honestly, it might be better to donate your books and deduct 1/2 cover price from your taxes.

I recently had a yard sale and made over $1200. The key to my success I would attribute to great signage (put HUGE neon signs all over with big letters and arrows pointing to the proper direction) and the fact that everything was displayed properly. Clothes I would recommend hanging up - if you have a garage you can tie a rope from the tracks and use it as a clothes line - this is what we would do. I sold kids clothes from .50 cents for non-name brand separates to $4.00 for name brand sets that were in excellent shape. I separated everything by size, and wrote the size and price and brand on a file folder label and stuck it on each piece. Alot of work, but well worth it in the end.

Beanie Babies I priced at $2 each. They didn't sell as well as I anticipated they would. I guess they are out of vogue nowdays. A real money maker for me was all of those zillion Happy Meals toys and small toys like that my kids had and don't play with anymore. I'd gather 4 or 5 things, put them in a ziplock baggie, and put the baggies in a bin and marked them $1.00 each. I made about $50 from that, stuff I was sick of looking at in my house - I never dreamed anyone else would want it!

Books were also a big seller for me - I priced hardbacks at $1.00 each, paperbacks 3 for $1.00. Videotapes went fast - kids and adult videos I sold for $2.00 each.
