Need mattress recommendations please

We really need a new king size mattress and I just got an e-mail from Furniture Row which includes Denver Mattress Company for 5 year no interest. So I think it's time we get one. DH and I do not like really firm mattress but don't want anything too soft either. I have no idea what type of mattress to get Tempur-Pedic, latex, Simmons, pillow top, etc?? Need recommendations please. Have to decide by Saturday if we want to take advantage of special financing (and, yes, we already have a Furtniture Row account from years 3 year ago). The latex mattress have really good reviews and are cheaper than Tempur-Pedic. Also, want one that will last...not one that will feel really good for 6-12 months and then... And, I don't want to have to buy special sheets.

If you've had any of these mattresses for over 2 years, I'd love to hear your comments. TIA!

TempurPedic! Love it and you don't feel the other person moving around. We hated the Sleep Number but this was 15 yrs ago, so they may be better now.

Have had our TemperPedic for 11 years and it is still great! They do not come cheap, but either get the one with the topper, or because there wasn't much available at that time , we just recently added a great 3" topper from Sam's Club. It is the same quality of our mattress - some are not - tried one from Belks and it was really light and not very much "memory" to it. There are some cheaper "like TemperPedic" memory foam mattresses out there but don't be fooled - you get what you pay for!

Curious too! We are in the market for a new king bed too. We bought a Serta queen about 2 years ago and I can barely sleep on it. It is so hard and makes my hip ache! DH likes it as his back has problems. We thought about the sleep number but haven't heard that great of things about it. Funny I can sleep perfect at most hotels. Maybe I am just dog tired though! Any help is appreciated!

If you don't have a specific budget to stay in, I would suggest a Tempurpedic (not the lowest priced model, though)...but they are at least 3 times the price of a standard high quality mattress I think.

We almost went with a Denver Matress but I chickened out at the last minute due to lack of reviews online. I ended up picking out a Sterns & Foster plush mattress. We decided against a pillow top because they do compact down after several years making it a moot amenity but if I could do it all over again I would get the pillow top.

You really need to just go out and try out all types of mattresses as everyone has their own preferences. My only tip for you is if you do get a standard coiled mattress, get one that has individually wrapped coils and has foam around the edges of the mattress. Some of them didn't have the foam on the edge and when you sit on the edge of the bed, the coils poke you. I also tend to sleep toward the edge, so not having a foam barrier would make it difficult for me to be comfortable.

Thank you everyone. We were leaning towards the Tempur-Pedic but for the price, I wanted some opinions first, especially on durability.
So, now to decide, which model Can you tell me the type of Tempur-Pedic you have? The price isn't as shocking when you spread it out over 5 years.

We are getting a Tempur cloud with our tax return. We have many family members with Tempurpedic that LOVE it. We went to the store and laid on a bunch of them. We decided the Tempur cloud was the perfect mix of firm and soft. I would suggest going to the store and testing them all out. We did NOT like the basic tempurpedic it was just to firm.

We went through the same process about a year ago and found that it is very much a personal preference. We had many tell us that sleep number was the way to go, but after research and trial, we did not like it. Tempurpedic is popular but many complain it does not breath and holds too much heat. Latex was also a popular choice, which is what we went with. We had to add a latex topper to it as it was a bit firm at first, but like it now. To each his own though.

We are going tonight to try some out. I'm sure they won't have every model in the store. I've been really researching TempurPdic today and the heat issue does concern me. We live in FL so we get enough heat without our mattress making us even hotter. Many reviewers stated they went with the Simmons ComforPedic and like it much better. From what I read it's a combination of memory foam and latex which provides no heat and molds to your body faster.
Ugh! Now I remember why we've been putting this off for so long. At least Denver Matress Co has a 30 day test period where it can be exchanged if we do not like it. At least I know whatever we decide will be better than our 10yo spring mattress.

I read about the heat issues too, I've not had any issues with it. Just move to a different spot! My labs love to lay on the foot of the bed which is nice is the winter to have a warm spot where your feet go!
We must have the classic, there weren't the pillow top ones available where we bought ours. We did get two free pillows with our set.

I originally bought a Tempur-pedic, (Cloud Supreme for alittle over 3000.00) had to have it, wanted one for a long time and heard all good things about it. Unfortunately I had it for 23 days and had to return it, it gave me terrible headaches from the off-gassing (as they call it), and I was told all new mattresses have some type of off gas and that it usually goes away, I never got use to it and the headaches were horrible. I would suggest you read reviews on the internet about the mattress before you buy it, I was fortunate that I had a one time return on it bought at Jordans Furniture (had to exchange for another mattress), I got the Simmons Nature Care Advanced Rejuvenation mattress, its all organic, and I have to say that I love it. My husband actually preferred it to the Tempur-pedic, he slept on it longer then me lol. It was the same price as the Tempur-pedic, and I couldn't be happier, I also read about the heat with the Tempur-pedic and really can't comment on that, but my niece has one and she said it does get alittle warm, but she doesn't mind it. I am cold natured and love that it tends to keep in heat. I would be cautious if you tend to be hot natured though.

I can't remember the model/name of my temper-pedic because I have had it 11 years, but the choices were a lot less then. It's true they are warm, but that is fine with us as we like to turn the heat down at night and just use sheet/light down blanket and it's perfect. In the summer, have not noticed the warmth of the mattress being a problem as the air seems to compensate. I can agree that it's a hard decision to make though when you have to plunk down so much $$$ - but a good night's sleep is so necessary. As others have said, go to the stores and try them out even though that doesn't give you much info for the little time you lay there. My brother and wife bought the Sleep Number and love it, but I can't see paying that much for a glorified "air mattress" If you do decide on the temper-pedic just be sure you don't get the cheaper knock off ones. We love our Sleep Number bed. Have had it for 8 years and it is still like new. Never had to worry about it forming around you or feeling lumpy. Most of my friends have tried laying on our bed and then buying one for themselves!

Recently stayed at a friend's who has a Tempurpedic. I am a person who is ALWAYS cold--I sleep with an electric blanket for a lot of the year. That bed was so ridiculously hot. I was sweating buckets and I almost NEVER sweat. My son wanted a Tempurpedic and I said no way because I thought it would make him miserable.

We bought a tempurpedic a few years ago. HATED it. Returned it after the 30 day trial, paid the restocking fee and ended up with a high-end inner spring pillow top mattress that has a layer of both tempur material and latex. We LOVE it. The tempurpedic is a "firm" mattress. Don't let anyone tell you differently. It is like sleeping on a rock molded to the shape of your body. I'm convinced that the people who say they never toss and turn anymore b/c of the tempurpedic are saying that because they simply CAN'T move without becoming super uncomfortable until the rock hard mattress forms around their body again. It also smelled due the off-gassing a pp already mentioned. Anyhow, DH was CONVINCED that he was going to love the mattress, and he ended up hating it just as much as I did. We were HAPPY to pay the restocking fee and send that sucker back!! Our new inner spring mattress was comfy from day one (no "breaking-in" period), and we still love it. We have the Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe, which is pricey, but fortunately we were able to obtain while my husband worked in a mattress store and had a phenomenal discount.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend it! The adjustable base we got with it is a fabulous plus as well, but not essential. I now don't need the five pillows I used to use to prop my body at night. I fall asleep in one position and easily sleep 8+ uninterrupted (when my kids let me, of course), and I wake up in that same position I fell asleep in! Whenever we're done with a Disney trip, the one thing that comforts me is knowing that my body has that wonderful bed waiting for me at home! In fact, I'm in it right now - comfy as can be!

Don't know what you had, but we have recommended ours to lots of people and never met anyone that wasn't happy with it and that made them miserably hot like some posters have said. I think we had one of the lower-end models-- maybe the second step up from the low end model? I think a queen ran us about $1600-$1700 ish, so it still seemed pretty pricey to me! We couldn't get rid of that thing fast enough!! --Katie

We have a Temperpedic; I think it's an Ergo. It was close to $6000 with the adjustable frame and I hate it. It's comfortable but so hot. Even in winter, I'm uncomfortable.

temper mattress are soaked in chemicals to meet fire safety standards. They are also known to off gas for years. I would look into a hastens or vispring. Both are top of the line and all natural they also do lifetime warrenty.
