Need June airline tickes.. should I wait for a ding?

I keep waiting for a ding for end of June travel.... Should I go on and just buy tickets??? I don't want to pay 200 round trip.. that is just unreal to me.. we use to get such good deals...

June is mighty close. If you really need to purchase tickets I would buy them if not you run a risk of not getting anything. In many cases airfare goes up at 30 days and again at 14 days out.

$200 round trip is NOT a bad price in my opinion.

I got our tickets back in march when I found a good sale (dates june 23rd and 30th). Since then, the prices have fluctuated, but most of the time they are double what I actually paid. I'd keep and eye on them, but as soon as you find a price you think is decent buy them.

I've been checking daily for columbus/orlando dings in June and haven't seen any. The dings for other places I've seen haven't been that great, anyway. I went ahead and bought tickets for our flight down - fares weren't bad but they've been really jumping around from around $58 to $107. Most days they're sitting at $83. Whacky. Last trip 2 years ago we got dings for $48 - so I consider myself very lucky to have grabbed $58.

The return flight though is $180. (Down to $165 for the first time today). I'm also in a debate whether to purchase and hope they'll come down. I compared to airtran which isn't that much more, AND they offer ME luggage transfer to the airport, AND we could get a later flight that would give us a more relaxing morning (would require switching planes, though). I don't know what to do, either.

Hmm I don't think so, unless where you live you've been getting them for a while, but I check every day and there have only been a few June dings and that's only been the last couple of weeks


OP I would buy it now and not hold out for a ding, if one comes out you can always rebook and get the credit for a future flight

The flights I was looking for June 14 to 20 PIT-MCO are around $400 roundtrip! I would jump at $200. I ended up cashing in hotel points to get a free ticket but am leaving a day earlier.

I purchased my tickets awhile back, flying out of CMH. I got a cheaper flight in March. I have been looking to see if they have gone down anymore, and they keep going up. I was hoping to get more ticketless funds. Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of the ones I have since we wont be flying anywhere again from when they expire.

Add me to the list of those with unreal expectations. I refuse to buy my return flight until the price comes down. I have a one-way SUV rental thru Alamo and I will keep that and drive back before I pay $119 one way especially since I paid $54 for the flight down. When I pull up the southwest shortcuts calendar, I get really ticked. Look yourself. Almost every single Thursday from May til Aug is $49 or 69 except the Thursday I need, June 25th. Why? It's not a holiday, not a weekend; it's thoroughly frustrating!

Also, why are all the cheap flights on every other airline before 8am? With ME that means checking out and getting out by 5am. That's just nuts.

The cheap flights are at inconvenient times so that they can try to fill the plane. If you were running Southwest, would you offer $54 flights all day every day?

There are approximately 130 seats on a 737. At $50 per ticket, SW earns $6500 in revenue on that flight if it is completely full. That doesn't even pay for the fuel unless you live in a contiguous state to Florida, let alone the salaries of the captain and first officer to whom you are entrusting your life, the flight attendants, and maintenance on that aircraft.

Where are you flying from? Up here in the Northeast school is just getting out at that time and the prices are not going to go down. Our flight for June 27th (PVD to MCO) has only gone up since I bought them at $119, now they are $151!

Flying out of Baltimore. While I haven't given up hope, I don't really think I will get airfare for my 6/25 flight, but I just don't understand why every other Thursday (I just checked again) from May through October is $49. Even if I wanted to fly this Thursday - 3 days from today! - I could get a $49 flight. As far as I know, that date was never below $99 and that was only for the earliest flight. I started checking when the flights through June opened and bought our outgoing flight back in February.

We are going to Tampa 5/30-6/6. Paid $72pp for 5/30 leg in early Feb. Paid $99pp for return leg 6/6 but it came down twice in Feb so ultimate price is 4 tickets at $72pp and 2 at $98pp. We purchased ns flights at optimum times for us. It has never been cheaper than this. Here lately, there was a flight that took us all the way up to Chicago first (we're in Missouri) then down to Tampa for $49 pp. I didn't jump because I didn't want a stop, not to mention one that made our trip that much longer AND at a really really early time in the morning. There have been no deals on our specific flights. I'd say when you find a price you can live with, bite because our flights have only gone up & one of them listed as unavailble for about a week too. From what I've seen in the past, best deals for us were found about 3 months prior to trip.

We are flying out on June 5 and coming back on June 9. I searched for weeks and finally settled on Sunday. I did buy the tickets separately on two different days but it worked out.

From DFW to MCO we got Airtran for 79 each tickets (3)
From MCO to DFW we got Airtran for 69 each ticket (3)
About 148 a ticket before all taxes.

Good luck to you. I say look at Airtran they have some good deals. Well I havent checked since Sunday but they have to have something

BTW.. I did look at AA.com today and one of the flights is going for about 300 minumum per ticket

UPDATE: For those who may be looking at SW for end of June. I was able to purchase this am for my return flight in late June finally. Waiting paid off for me as I was able to book $49 one way return and $54 one way to mco. Very, very happy now since we're paying $621 RT for 5!!!!!!! Our last vacation the flights for the five of us totalled $850.

Check your SW dates again and good luck!!

I purchased our Jetblue fare going from JFk in Sept for 79/pp. Very happy with that fare. The day we come back, the fares jump to 179/pp for the one way, for anything after about 10AM. Delta and Southwest are both at 89 for that day. I'm not sure why the flights are so high on that particular Mon (9/21). I'm going to hold out and wait to see if it goes down. I would've booked Delta at 89 in a second, but DH insists on Jetblue. I wonder if they are priced so high because they would rather cancel them than have 3 people on the flight?
