Need iPhone 5 Screen Replacement Help!

I dropped my IPhone 5, the screen shattered, phone still works though. Has anyone found a reasonable place that replaces just the screen? If so, how much did it cost? I don't have Apple Care or Insurance, I was told by Apple that I could get a refurbished phone for $200, but I just bought this one in December, and I don't have $200 for a cell phone right now. Any advice greatly appreciated!

My friend did the same to his iPhone 4. He actually bought a new screen from eBay cheap, then searched on how to replace it himself. Much, much cheaper. I don't know if you're confident in that sort of thing or know anyone who is though.

There are tons of places to get your iPhone screen fixed. If you are even a little bit handy you can find kits on ebay/amazon and fix it yourself. There are tons of youtube videos on diy option too.

Some computer stores will do it. The problem is - around here, it costs more to have the screen replaced than it does to take the phone to an Apple store for a replacement. When I took my iPhone4 in I assumed (and was told) I would get a refurb. I ended up with a new one. The computer store was going to charge me $200 to replace the screen, Apple charged me $150 (the insurance was going to be $160 and definitely a refurb)

How old is your phone? If it's relatively new, you can add AppleCare after purchase (not sure of the exact age).

When DW dropped her iPhone 5, we learned that if you have the screen replaced it will void the Apply H/W warranty.

There are lots of iPhone repair places. Go to www.ihosptal.com and see if there are any around you. Or just google iPhone repair in your city.

Most folks I know just leave it broken if it works, because the replacement will be broken soon anyway.

I would try to replace it yourself. There are tons of videos on ytube. It does not look that hard as long as you move slowly and don't force anything. If it does not work out then you are only out the cost of the screen as you will still need to replace the phone.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I am going to look into replacing it myself, if that fells I guess I will just have to buy I new one.

I have not replaced my small crack in my iphone5 (upper corner...didn't have the heavy duty cases available when I bought it, but the case covers it)

BUT I have replaced my daughter's ipod touch screen.

It was inexpensive. Wasn't too hard. HOWEVER WATCH MORE THAN ONE VIDEO. The part to really be careful with is the speaker wires. The video i watched was pointing out being careful in other areas, but neglected this area.

It still plays fine on docks, but no sound off of that. I gave her my old iphone so she's not pitching a fit.

A guy I work with replaces a lot of screens for others. He said it's very easy. I think he said most screens are about $30-$40 except the new iphone5 ones are like $250. That is just for the screen, not for labor. That price will come down as other companies start making replacement screens.

Absolutely not. Very few people I know have a smart phone that doesn't have a cracked screen. It just comes with having a smart phone. And the ones that did get it fixed, usually had it cracked again in a few months. If it still works, why fix it?

I had an iphone 4 phone fixed at a kiosk at the mall, it was around $79, I needed to take it back a second time as it wasn't charging, passed the fixed phone onto my daughter and it needs a new screen again and it did have a heavy duty case on it.
