Need info on T-mobile prepaid phone

I'm thinking of getting my son a prepaid phone. T-mobile looks like a good deal. I'm a little worried because their coverage looks spotty. We live in New Jersey. Does anyone know how the coverage is?

My son's T-1 Mobile pay as you go phone has never lost signal. He took it on our WDW trip in September and it did fine down there too. I guess it depends on where you live?

We live in South Jersey, right near Philadelphia--anyone familar with T-mobile's service in this area?
