Hi everyone,
I need ideas on fun things for me and DH to do. I feel like all I do is work and go home. My New Year's resolution is to do more activities, so I need some cool ideas. DH and I have no kids, and I see so many of our friends doing things with their children like school activities and such. So please, give me some ideas please! THanks!!!

Well, it kinda depends on what kinds of things you like to do, but a few off the top of my head...

Join a bowling league (you don't have to be good)
Take a dance class together
Take a couples massage class
Go geocaching (sort of a GPS treasure hunt)

Some thoughts: schedule a weekly date night, maybe take in a movie, go bowling, or something we like to do, go play laser tag, that is just as much fun for adults as it is for kids. Go hiking, go geocaching orgo climb a rock wall. Before kids DH and I would turn on MTV (I know I am dating myself, this was when MTV was enjoyable) and play Scrabble or Cribbage and have some wine. Find a new hobby that the two of you can do together.

Whatever you decide, have lots of fun!

Do some research to find some unique museums in your neck of the woods!

We found one a couple of years ago - it has since closed to the public of firetrucks. This was one of the COOLEST museums EVER!!!

My DH wanted to go through the "deep tunnel" tour when we lived in the Chicago area - this was awesome too! (and free)

What about going to a wine tasting class?

Williams Sonoma (by me) offers some basic classes for free. (of course they feature W/S products)

Our Sunday paper has a specific column on "fun things to do" that I like to look at. Some things cost money, others are free.

Do any local colleges or high schools put on any theatrical productions? Some of these can be really inexpensive.

Can you volunteer somewhere together? Obviously, something you are interested both interested in.

Have fun!!! (Sorry about stressing the money part of things - but sometimes it is hard coming up with things to do that aren't too expensive.)

OP - what a great idea. DH and I also have no kids and we tend to do more activities in the summer - we have tried two different approaches.

First we put a bunch of attraction/day trip locations on slips of paper in a bowl, and every weekend we would pull out a slip of paper and that would be where we went on Saturday - you know like within 1 or 2 hour drive (depending on what you are comfortable with)

The other approach was taking turns deciding what we do - so for example - I had my DH painting ceramics with me and he had me taking a day long firearms training course with him- definitely got us to do things outside our of comfort zones!

Good luck and have fun!

DOnt forget about volunteering or doing respite care with a child as an option. Also you might want to look into big brother/big sister, they might even have a brother/sister pair for you to di things with.

Thanks everyone for some interesting ideas! DH and I joined just joined a gym too, so that is something else we can do together. I also thought about visiting some of our local parks once the weather gets nice. Having picnics, hiking the trails, taking the dog with us to enjoy if allowed and maybe getting a really cool kite to fly as well is also some other things I thought.

Once the spring hits, I am going to start checking the paper for community things like someone suggested. I also just looked up the worship times of the church we used to go to when I was younger. Looking forward to that too and any activities they will have.

Really excited to look into some of the other suggestions made, thank you all very much!!

My husband and I really enjoy visiting local wineries. In the summer, some of them have live music and you can take a picnic lunch. Even in the winter, you can still do the wine tastings and buy a bottle of your favorite.

Not sure where in Philadelphia you are, but Bucks County has some beautiful park. Tyler Park being one of them along with Core Creek.

And just because you don't have kids doesn't mean you can't go places like the zoo, camden aquarium. peddlers village is also nice to walk around any time of year

When DH and I had that problem the first thing we did was act like tourists in our own City. Plenty of people come to Miami to visit so we figured we would do what they do. We got a florida Tourism book and looked up things in our areas. We went to museums, Travelling exhibitions (king tut exhibit, bodies exhibition, Cirque's Drallion), Animal Sanctuaries, local festivals, art and craft shows, wineries, amusement areas... anything we could find.

I found in the paper, the 'family' section is actually the best area to look up local happening and festivals. Even though we don't have kdis we still went to family festivals because they were generally the biggest. We also tried activities like laser tag, bowling, and dance. We weren't always 100% looking forward to every single festival or thing we tried, but just getting out there was fun! Some things we thought would be so-so became favorites (Renaissance Festival!) while others that looked cool just were not so good (Boooo.. Miami seaquarium).

Just go out and try anything.

Does your newspaper have a section on things going on in your area? We have a "GO" section which lists all the entertainment around town weekly, like all the local bands, plays, events, entertainers, etc..

My husband and I do a lot of hiking and walking and camping in the summer. We rent TV series from netflix that we watch together. We go to a lot of community events especially at the holidays- I am sucker for something free- Chili cook-offs, tree lightings, antique fairs, apple picking. We do a lot of household projects together- it saves money and I think it's fun...my husband doesn't always like playing handyman though especially when we make mistakes . We also like to pick new recipes to try out together.

I agree with playing tourist in your town- I love doing that and I am usually surprised at how much there is to do.

Have fun!
