Hello All!

I have been given a task at work that has to be completed by Sunday night, so I am reaching out to the experts.

Here's the deal.

We have approximately 140 desks... they are cubicles. Our department is going through some system upgrades as well as we are participating in some pilots. So, in order to become more "festive" my manager has given me a budget of $75 to transform my area to look like we are truly under "construction". I have no other sources of funds, what idea can you think up? I thought of some caution tape, perhaps some black and orange streams for the tops of the desks, but I am drawing a blank for anything else.

I know I can count on you guys for help!

TIA

Awesome Boss, that is a great idea!
You could put up some "caution men at work" construction signs. You could print them from the internet or make posters:

Walmart and Target sell bright orange cones for soccer practice etc. i.e., mini traffic cones!
Orange White Black do seem to be the colors. If you have money left over maybe a treat (cookies or sprinkled donuts or a cake) in those colors.
Sounds like it will be a fun day at the office :goodvibes

Oh how cute is that! Yes- Safety cones, caution tape, a hard hat(they sell kid ones at the party store inexpensively)
How about setting up a big poster board(Core board) at the entrance to your cubby and cut a hole in it to make the "windows" they put up in constuction sites to see inside.

I believe you can buy those yellow rolls of caution tape at Lowes and Home Depot. Maybe some of that orange plastic fence roll that you see roping off a construction site too. If you can have kid themed items, get Bob the Builder stuff.

I would take a trip to Lowes or Home Depot and walk around for inspiration!

Clean used or new paint cans for supply bins - they can be used standing up (like a pencil/pen cup) or, you can attach large ones on their sides, stacked or pyramid, for in/out bins, etc!

How about a painter's drop cloth....you get a lot of material very cheap. If you splatters different colors of paint over it (whatever you or a friend has in leftovers from projects), it can be used as chair covers. Just use those cork screw (twist pin) upholstry pins to hold in place. The same can be done with any scrap fabric handing around.

Check out your dollar store too! They sometimes have a small section with hardware.

PVC pipes can be put together easily to make all kinds of things.

How about one of those lights...I don't know what they are called, but here is a picture:

For even cheaper options, check out your own garage or a friend's for some borrowed items. Scrap wood, orange caution trianges, work gloves, tool belt, an empty jar with some extra nuts and bolts, nails, screws etc in the bottom and use as a pencil cup, Tonka trucks,

How about a tool belt hung on one of the cubile walls for supply pockets?

If you do end up purchasing items for your area, talk to your boss about donating those items to Habitat for Humanity or similar organization when your construction theme is over!

Good luck!
