Need ideas for teen bedroom

Froggy,

I don't think my DS will ever outgrow hockey!! He has been playing since he was 5 (skating since he was 3) and sleeps, breathes hockey!!

I love your ideas! Let me know what you come up with when working on your sketches!

By the way, there's no way I plan on using his old hockey pants - they stink!:crazy2: :faint:

My DS is 13 and we gave him free choice for colors for his room. Two walls are bright blue, one wall Mickey pants red, the last wall bright lime green. Yes, we kinda puked when he picked them out, but they do look good in the room.

When I was a kid my parents let me do this every 2 years from the time I was old enough to pick my favorite color of that time! I still love the fact that they let me make MY room truly mine....though I do recall neon ornage paint and an orange rug one time and neon green paint and a green rug another...looking at those pics now..BLECH...but at the time I thought it was so cool! A friend of mine has a 13 year old girl and she wanted her room black so he painted it black and they painted neon pink starts all over it, it looks really good!
I let my then 3 year old pick out her room color last year and together we painted the room Cinderella Blue, she picked out cinderella border paper and big wall sitckers of the princess...in another 2 years we will change it to whatever she likes at that time....

Something we learned about in chemistry the other day is pretty cool. It's magnetic paint. Apparently, you put it on like a primer, then paint over it...then you can use your walls like they are steel.

Why don't you pick the colours of his favourite hockey team. Take the main colour and paint all the walls that colour. Then using painters tape, have him tape out large rectangles and squares or some weird stripes and then paint inside these with the other contrasting team colours. If you make some of the rectangles large enough, they can actually frame some of his jerseys and things that you want to highlight.

It is called block painting and it looks fantastics. Some of these stripes could also be painted in metalic paint.

It is a great look and your son can put a lot of imagination into it.

I have not used the magnetic paint.....sorry! Just remembered it from an HGTV show:o .....too much tv, not enough action

I really like the idea of magnetic paint. Has anyone used it? Like or dislike it? :wave2:

My son has decided that he wants his room orange & black (interesting but they are his team colors). I'm thinking along the lines of black on the bottom half of the walls and orange on the top maybe in some sort of wavey type pattern so it's not a straight line across the walls. He has a shelving unit that is white. I was thinking of keeping that white along with white shelving along the walls (for trophies). Do you think the white would be ok with these two crazy colors?

The magnetic paint isnt all that great, it works but not on every surface,, would prolly be better to do a band of cork panel, or even a cheep dry erase board band,, ( there is a white wall board for bathrooms that makes a great dry erase panel,) about 25 bucks for a 4x8 sheet,, as for oragne black and white,, check da uniform,, those ar e the three,,, i stil need to get a few scetches scanned in i'lk try and mail em soon

Froggy,

I think we're going to stick with the cork board on one small wall instead of the magnetic paint. I figured it will hold any clippings he wants to put up there.

I can't wait to see your sketches!!

BTW, how are you feeling? When is your next doctors appt?

Thanks,
Annette

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but chalkboard paint is pretty cool too! My brother did his entire room in black chalkboard paint and his friends are always decorating and re-decorating his room. It is pretty cool. Since he is a teenager, there is always something inappropriate that gets drawn though. ;)

hockeymon,, feelin good,, 2 days on a mountain side helps,,lol,, i might even post a pic or 2,,one word,, well 2 black board paint = ... the ever present chalk dust,,, stay away,,, lol,, the wall board, plain old fshioned masonite with dry erase markers is safer
