My DD's dad (my ex) promised he would take them to get their Halloween costumes. He hasn't done it yet, and I just want to have back ups. They are 15 and 11, so they would not be anything cutesy.
They will probably be going with me to take DD2 trick or treating.

If you have a hula skirt, flower lei, and a tropical dress or outfit-they could be a hula dancer.

Princess gown, tiara, and such...they could be a princess.

Indian attire, Japanese attire....they could dress up to be a person from that country/area.

Familyfun.com has great ideas. Some are so easy, that you just need sweats and add certain things to make costume.

Girls or boys?

Hippies or hobos are always easy ones.

Heck one year I had to go as a ghost with a white sheet over my head.

Brown Pants, Green T-shirt, brown belt and a toy sword and you have Peter pan.

Family Fun does have some great ones. We did a white shirt with white sweats, black fabric paint for spots and black eye liner to draw a nose and whiskers and you have a dalmatian.

My favs in that age range were either a clown--wear bright colored sweats, mismatched socks and a pair of big old mens shoes and paint your face--or the tried and true baby--wear your jammies, put your hair in a pony tail on top of your head and carry a doll and a bottle.

How about a christmas tree- they dress all in green and then hang ornaments off of them- wrap a string of lights around them. Make some kind of foil star and attach it to a hat or headband. The funniest thing is you can plug her in and she will light up.

For some reason teenage girls love to dress as babies. A pacifier, a bonnet, some pink PJ's and a baby bottle.

Make a trip to the local thrift store. We haven't bought a store costume in years. They always find something there. You can add to it with hats, makeup, etc. from Wal-mart. The thrift stores have a great selection of prom dresses and bridal gowns. (I think you have girls, right?)

gypsy (skirt, loose shirt, bangles, scarves)
railroad worker (overalls, lantern, bandana, engineers cap)
coach (sweatshirt, shorts, whistle, clipboard)

pin socks, etc to clothes, along with an empty (small) laundry soap bottle, and maybe fabric softener sheet box and you've got a pile of dirty laundry. Last year I had a cracked laundry basket, so cut the bottom out of it, tied string to it so it would hook to my daughter like suspenders. Then put some clothes in it, and tied the empty bottle of laundry soap to the basket. She won best costume. Cost us nothing.

I seen a cute one on the View today...the girl dressed all in pink, with a pink hat that she had stuck a shoe onto.....she was bubblegum on the bottom of a shoe.
