Ok, here's what I'm trying to decide...

DH, DS and I had a trip planned for August. We just found out that DH's cousin, his wife and their kids (DD9 and DS6) will be joining us for a few days of the trip. The kids have never been to WDW :scared1: and DCousins haven't been since they were kids. They won't have park hoppers, just regular tickets. We plan to spend one whole day at MK. So the question is...Where should we go for dinner that night????

We are staying at YC and on our other park day we will be taking them to EPCOT with dinner at The Biergarten. We want to make this a special experience for them since they haven't been before and the trip will be so short.

Any ideas? Stay in MK? Somewhere on the monorail? They aren't picky eaters but like the basics. I've considered Ohana's (not sure about ADRs so late) and then watch the fireworks from the beach. I hate fighting the crowds to watch from the park.

Please throw out any and all suggestions...TS, CS, food carts. ;)

TIA! :worship:

The Wave at the Contemporary, then watch the fireworks from the 4th floor!

I think ADRs are going to be a little hard to come by now :( but if you can get a reservation at Ohana that is a great place to go with groups. There is also 1900 Park Fare on the monorail loop (I went there with a group of friends and it was alot of fun even though the food was just okay).
In the Magic Kingdom there aren't many places I would recommend...Liberty Tree Tavern and Crystal Palace are probably the two best places followed by Tony's (which might have a reservation).
Also Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge is a fun meal and just a boat ride from MK.
Good Luck!

Kona Cafe at the Poly is also great and you could still watch the fireworks from the Poly beach :) It's also probably easier to get an ADR there than at Ohana.

If you want to stay in the park there is always Crystal Palace which has Pooh and friends. My family's favorite TS in the MK is Liberty Tree Tavern which offers your meal family style for dinner. Also if you are thinking about leaving the park we are fans of both 'Ohana and Whispering Canyon for groups. Both are very tasty and a lot of fun for kids.

If you can get an ADR for CP, I think its great selection of food and the kids would love the characters.

if their time in the park is limited, I think I would just go with Cosmic Ray's for a quick meal. If you go at off time, you can get seated in the room with the out-of-this-world "floor show"...it's a kick if you haven't seen it before. The menu there should have something for everyone...we love the BBQ rib/rotiss chicken platters.

Dole whips for special treats at some point in the day (if they like pineapple) or ice cream floats from The Plaza ice cream parlor. Or any of the bakery goodies at Main Street Bakery...many of the items in there are big enough to share...they giant cinnamon rolls are outstanding.

If you absolutely want to get out of the park for the meal, would highly recommend Kona Cafe at the Poly if you can't get into 'Ohana. We've had great food there, and watching the fireworks from the Poly is great.

I would try Chef Mickeys. Buffet and Characters for kids. On the monorail as well. I know it would be hard to get ADRs now, but I would keep trying to see if there are cancellations.

I would recommend Crystal Palace. You can sit down take a break but not lose time because it is in the park.
Good food, a buffet for those picky eaters and the characters are so cute! It is a way to get "disney" at dinner as well.
Frankly it is my favorite place while at WDW...just the whole thing and getting to walk out right on to the next attraction....priceless.

Not sure when you are going but I am going the first week of August so I was on Disney Dining and noticed for parties of 7 there seemed to be reservations. There was even a 5:20 at Ohana on August 4th! I saw some 1900 Park Fare and Crystal Palace around 4:45 and 7. And Liberty Tree seemed to have good availability for that day as well. So I would go to disneyworld.com/dining to see what you can find!
Happy Planning!

I would go for Crystal Palace if I were you. There is a great selection of food, fun characters which means a very "disney" experience, and the convenience of being right in the park. It all works for me. We love it there.

My first suggestion would be Ohana. It is a great place for families! However it might be impossible to get a reservation there now.

As a post above says, Kona Cafe is another excellent choice. And both restaurants offer the opportunity to view the fireworks from the Polynesian beach if you're not interested in heading back into the crowded park.

If you wanted to stay in MK, headto Crystal Palace. The food is good, but Winnie and his friends surely make up for it!

Thanks for all the great ideas and helpful tips!

I'm going to try for WCC. It isn't somewhere I've ever thought of going with just my little family, but it should be fun with a group--especially one with younger children. This way they can see another resort as well. If the timing works, we could head over to the Poly beach for fireworks.

Is there a boat from WL area to TTC? Or would I take the boat to MK then to Poly?

Thanks again!

I would stay at the MK and you have 3 good choices .
Tony's - Italian
CP- Buffet with Characters
LTT- Is like a mini thanksgiving dinner.
But it's late in the game now u need to go and ck and see if you can get in any of these now. Good luck and have a Magical Trip.:thumbsup2

1900 Park Faire in GF. The character interactions are fabulous!

Love the evil stepmother and evil stepsisters.

Since it's their first WDW visit, I would try to stay in MK rather than visiting other resorts.

Columbia Harbour House or Cosmic Ray's are good choices for CS. At CHH you can dine upstairs to get away from most of the crowds.

August will be hot and humid (just in case you weren't aware *LOL*), and CS sometimes can be a better choice than TS in the heat. Even if you personally don't care for watching the fireworks in the park, it's a "first" experience for your extended family. :)

Thanks to everyone who replied.

We decided to go with Kona. We could have gotten WCC but were worried it would be too much to go back and forth with newbies in tow. :rotfl:

Looking forward to our evening.

Thanks again!

Kona will be a great choice and the Poly beach is so awesome for the Electric parade and fireworks.
